본고는 복합양식 텍스트의 의미 작용이 확장된 시각성 하에 상(image)의 연합을 이루어내는 방식으로 이루어진다는 점에 주목하여, 복합양식 텍스트의 근본 속성으로 ‘보여주기(showing)’를 제시하였다. 또한 복합양식 텍스트가 지닌 ‘보여주기’의 제 양상을 종합할 수 있는 복합양식 텍스트성(multimodal textuality)으로서 ‘영상성(imagance)’을 개념화하고자 하였다. 이에 복합양식 텍스트의 ‘보여주기’ 속성을 ‘도상성(Iconicity)’, ‘중층성(Multi-layer nature)’, ‘공간성(Spatiality)’, ‘유도성(Inductivity)’, 그리고 ‘감각 전이성(sensory transitionality)’의 차원에서 살펴보았다. 그리고 이들 속성이 ‘단일양식 텍스트(문자 텍스트), 정태적 복합양식 텍스트, 동태적 복합양식 텍스트’ 유형별로 어떻게 달리 실현되는지를 살펴, 영상성의 의미역을 상세화·체계화하였다. 본고는 복합양식 텍스트 자체의 내적 논리 체계를 바탕으로 복합양식 텍스트 성으로서 '영상성'을 제안함으로써 복합양식 텍스트에 대한 체계적 이해를 도모 하고, 복합양식 문식성 교육의 기반을 마련하였다는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 추후 다양한 복합양식 텍스트를 대상으로 하는 영상성 실현 양상에 대한 연구와 복합양식 텍스트의 텍스트적 자질과 속성을 구체화하는 텍스트성 연구가 이루어지기를 기대한다.

Considering that the symbolic action of multimodal-text takes the form of 'showing', the purpose of this study is to specify the ways and characteristics of multimodal-text existing and functioning as texts. In this context, this study identified the textual characteristics of multimodal-text as ‘Iconicity’, ‘Multi-layer nature’, ‘Spatiality’, ‘Inductivity’, and ‘Sensory transitionality’. Also, this study attempts to conceptualize ‘imagance’ as multimodal textuality. An important point in 'imagance' is that the semantics of modes operate in a way that forms a unified 'image'. It implies that the meaning is realized through the union of sensory image of a variety of modes and mental representations, and that the unity of image operates in ‘visual representation’ to materialize it in the form perceptible to readers. The significance of this study is to propose 'imagance’ as the multimodal textuality based on the internal logic system of the multimodal text itself and, by doing so, to contribute to the foundation of the literacy education aiming at the enhancement of the production · reception capacity of the multimodal text. In the future, studies on the imagance realization targeting the actual multimodal text and studies exploring the textual qualities and attributes of the multimodal text are expected.
