(연구배경 및 목적) 공항은 각 나라의 첫 인상을 전달해주는 장소로 그 나라의 문화를 느낄 수 있는 대표적인 공공장소이다. 최근 글로벌 허브공항에 설치된 공공미술 작품들은 승객들에게 문화소통이라는 특별한 경험 서비스를 제공하여 글로벌 시대의 국제적인 허브 공항으로서의 역할을 하고 있다. 공항이 복합문화공간으로 변화하고 있는 것은 세계적인 추세이며, 우리나라의 인천공항 제 2여객터미널(T2)은 개항을 앞두고 ‘아트포트(ART+AIRPORT)’프로젝트를 진행하였다. 이에 따라 인천국제공항 T2의 공공미술작품을 분석하고 작품들의 특성을 연구하여 공항이라는 특수한 공간에 설치됨으로써 나타나는 의의와 향후 글로벌 허브공항의 공공미술 방향을 연구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. (연구방법) 대한민국의 상징인 인천국제공항의 T2 내에 수준급 미술품을 배치를 목표로 2017년 10월 진행했던 ‘아트포트(Artport)’ 프로젝트에 선정된 5개의 작품과 추가로 T2의 작품 중 박태호 작가와 강희라 작가의 작품 총 7작품을 연구의 범위로 설정한다. T2를 ‘아트포트(Artport)’로 만들기 위해 설치된 작품을 분석하고 글로벌 허브공항이라는 특수한 장소에 공공미술작품과의 상관성을 연구한다. (결과) ‘그레이트 모빌(Great Mobile)’과 ‘모호한 벽(Ambiguous Wall)’은 공공성&상징성이 높게 나타났으며 두 작품은 설치 공간에 의해 장소적 특성중 공간의 이동성이 높게 나타났다. ‘빛과 그림자’와 ‘Hello’는 공공성&예술성이 공통적으로 높게 나타났으며 공공성&상징성을 가진 작품들과 같이 공간의 이동성과 관계가 높게 보여졌다. ‘Wings of Vision’, ‘Bit. Fall’, ‘Media Cloud’는 공공성&참여성이 공통적으로 높게 나타난 작품으로 작품에 따라 공간의 이동성, 글로벌문화성, 상호작용성이 각각 높게 나타나 장소적 특성과의 관계분포 결과를 확인할 수 있었다. (결론) 첫째, 글로벌 허브공항의 공공미술 작품들은 공공미술의 특징을 기본으로 매력적인 공간을 구성할 수 있어야 한다. 둘째, 글로벌 허브공항의 공간만이 가지는 특성을 고려해 공간 이미지를 부각시키며 작품과의 관계를 맺고 의미 있는 공간을 만들어 주어야 한다. 셋째, 글로벌 허브공항의 상호작용성은 인간-인간, 인간-공간, 인간-작품 사이에 모두 관계를 맺고 있으며 참여를 통한 공감대 형성과 교감이 공공미술작품의 가치를 높이며 공간에 의미를 갖게 한다고 볼 수 있다. 공공미술의 발전은 국제적 마케팅이 되어 글로벌 허브공항으로 자리할 수 있는 원동력이 될 것이다.
(Background and Purpose) An airport is a place to convey the first impression of a country and a public space representing the country’s culture. The public art pieces recently installed at the global hub airport provide the unique service experience of cultural interaction, allowing the hub airport to perform its role in the global era. Transforming airports into complex cultural spaces is a global trend. In Korea, an Artport (ART+ AIRPORT) project was launched ahead of the port opening of Incheon International Airport Terminal 2 (IIA T2). By analyzing the public artwork located in IIA T2 and studying their characteristics, this study aimed to present the significance of the installation of art pieces in unique places like airports and the future direction of public art in hub airports. (Method) The study analyzed seven art pieces: five art pieces selected from the Artport project launched in October 2017 to be placed in IIA T2 and two additional pieces by artists Taeho Park and Heera Kang. The study aimed to analyze the art pieces installed in IIA T2 to make it an “artport” and the relationship between public art pieces and special places like hub airports. (Results) Great Mobile and Ambiguous Wall showed high public and symbolism. Given the location of their installation, these two art pieces had high mobility of space. Both Light and Shadow and Hello were characterized by high public, artistic qualities, and a relationship with mobility of space, similar to the other art works that had high public and symbolism. Wings of Vision, Bit. Fall, and Media Cloud showed high public, participation, and high levels of space mobility, global culture, and interaction in art works, accordingly. Therefore, the relation distribution of location characteristics was confirmed. (Conclusions) First, based on the characteristics of public art, the artwork at hub airports should be able to form an attractive space. Second, considering the unique characteristics of hub airports, the image of the space should be emphasized and become a meaningful space by engaging the artwork. Third, hub airports’ interactivity should engender human human, human space, - - and human-artwork relationships. Thus, the formation of empathic bonds and communion through participation elevates the value of public artwork and grants the meaning of the space. The development of public art should become an international marketing that can serve as a driving force to establishing hub airports.
