To become a film star, an actor needs to form his own persona which is a peculiar personification different from any other actors. This article is to study the masculinity through the film persona of Song Gangho from the perspective of the socialism, the cultural study and the gender ideology. The 24 films in the past 20 years that Song Gangho has been acting as heroes are good texts which show the characteristics of masculinity in Korean films from the 90s to recent years. The male of characters who are combined of humor and violence acted by Song Gangho represent different characteristics from other male heroes of tragic noir films in 2000s. Also, very important factor of persona of Song Gangho is the strong male bonding with another male actor so called in the buddy movies. As the result, his persona is de-sexualized and de-melodramatic because of his weak relationship with women characters. So far, Song Gangho has earned the type of petit bourgeois in acting of ordinary male characters in films. Therefore, Song Gangho is a star sign that succeeds in stardom based on the strategy of which he makes the image of petit bourgeois his own personification.
