The purpose of this paper is to examine the characteristics of Sino-Korean words in Korean as loanwords. Sino-Korean words in the Korean language have a very special position as loan words, as are the Sino-Japanese words in Japanese, and neo-classical compounds in English. The specificity of Sino-Korean words as loan words can be explained by focusing on the different aspects of borrowing, adaptation, integration process. In particular, we have concluded that dividing the borrowing and integration processes into individual and systematic ones each is important for understanding Korean loanwords. Sino-Korean words have a certain sound-character-meaning pair in korean language and Korean speakers use some components of Sino-Korean words to produce new words in a productive way because of the process of extensive systematic borrowing and integration.
