본 연구의 목적은 기사(騎射)를 재현할 수 있도록 고구려 고분벽화의 기사도상(騎射圖像) 분석을 통해 구체적인 기사의 형태와 방식을 검토하는 데 있다. 먼저, 기사도상(騎射圖像)의 양상을 분석한 결과 산악지형에 적합한 형태의 말, 작은 활과 화살이 보인다. 주목할 점은 양손 혹은 한손으로 그리고 고삐를 놓은 채 하체만으로 말을 통제하는 기마술(騎馬術)이다. 다음으로 사냥감의 위치변화에 따라 말을 몰 수 있는 전술적인 기마술이 필요함과 동시에 이에 대응하여 활을 쏘는 전방위기사법(全方位騎射法)이 드러났고, 이 기사법을 기반으로 한 몰이 사냥의 형태인 포위기사전법(包圍騎射戰法)이 보인다. 마지막으로 사냥감 추격 속도에 비례하여 기사자(騎射者) 역시 고속으로 연달아 활을 쏘는 연속기사법(連續騎射法)이 보이는데 이 기사법을 기반으로 한 목표에 집중하여 연발(連發)하거나, 동시에 다수(多數)의 목표에 연발(連發)하는 다연발기사전법(多連發騎射戰法)이 나타났다. 결론적으로 기사도상(騎射圖像)에는 방위와 속도를 원리로 하는 기사법과 이를 기반으로 말과 마구, 활과 화살의 특성을 최대한 활용한 전법들이 나타나 있다.
The study is focused on the technical aspects of Horseback Archery. The research is conducted by analyzing ‘Horseback Archery Icons’ displayed in The Goguryeo Tomb Murals. First, The horses are suitable for mountainous terrain, The bow and arrow are small and short. Importantly, it is necessary to use the reins empty handed and to control with the lower body only. Secondly, As a result of the analysis of Icons, it was found that ‘Multiple Angle Horseback Archery Technique’ can be conducted by tactical riding by changing the position of the games and shooting. This means that the ‘Horseback Archery Encirclement Tactics’ is able to be conducted. Lastly, It was also found that ‘Serial Horseback Archery Technique’ techniques involve high speeds in proportion to the speed of the horse after pursuing the game, At the same time, a ‘Multiple Serial Horseback Archery Tactics’ has appeared. In conclusion, Angle and Velocity are important principles, and various tactics are possible by utilizing characteristics of horse and harness, bow and arrows.
