본 논문의 연구목적은 주자 心性論과 융 분석심리학의 학제 간 접목을 통해 개인과 사회, 개별과 보편의 공존과 조화를 모색해나가는 데 있다. 주자 심성론과 융 분석심리학은 기본적으로 외부세계가 아닌 인간 심성 속에서 天과 상통하는 보편적 진리체계를 구현해나간다는 측면에서 상호 일치되는 학문체계를 갖고 있다. 즉 性卽理로 대표되는 주자학은 인간 本性이 하늘의 理와 일치함으로써 인간 정신세계 속에 내재하는 理, 즉 太極이라는 인간 本性의 구현을 궁극적인 목표로 하고 있다. 이것은 융 분석 심리학의 ‘자기원형’이 갖는 절대적, 보편적, 의식 초월적인 특성 속에 자기 자신의 고유한 진리를 찾는 길, 즉 진정한 ‘자기(Self)’로서의 정신의 全一性을 실현해나가는 과정과 상통된다 할 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 주자 심성론은 도덕적 완성을 위한 개인의 욕망의 절제를 강조하는 이론으로 강조되는 측면도 없지 않다. 따라서 본 논문은 융 분석심리학의 개인치료과정을 중심으로 한 개인의 억압된 욕구와 욕망의 표출과정으로부터 시작하여 융분석심리학의 집단 무의식 내 원형상들과의 대면과정 및 인간 정신의 中心이자 전체성을 상징하는 자기원형과의 소통과정을 통해 개인을 넘어 선 보편적 사회질서와 이치를 터득해나가는 과정을 심리학적으로, 철학적으로 고찰해나가고자 한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 전통적인 유가적 사유와 분석심리학이라는 양 학제가 오늘날의 현대적인 언어와 방법론으로 재해석되며 개인과 사회의 조화로운 공존을 모색해나가는 데 본 논문의 의의가 있다.

The purpose of this paper is to find new ways of coexistence and harmony between the individual and society, as well as individuality and the universal through the integration of Zhu Xi’s (朱子) theory on human nature (心性論) and Jungian analytical psychology. Zhu Xi’s theory on human nature and Jungian psychology fundamentally share a mutually identical philosophic view on the structure and system of human nature: in both theories, universal reality that communicates with the heavens (天) is said to be materialized within human nature, rather than in the outside world. Therefore, the general principle of Zhu Xi, represented by xing ji li (性卽理; nature is identical with order/principle), is that as human nature corresponds to li (理: rational principle) of the heavens, li (rational principle) is ultimately immanent in the world of the human mind; and hence, human nature(本性) is said to materialize in a yin-yang (太極) structure. This is in line with the discovery of intrinsic individual truth within the absolute, universal and consciousness-transcending characteristics of the ‘archetypus des Selbst' of Jungian psychology, i.e. the process of achieving wholeness of the mind as the true ‘Self’. However, Zhu Xi's thoery is likely to be regarded as a theory that emphasizes only suppressing an individual's desire for moral accomplishment. Therefore, this study is a psychological and philosophical contemplation for the process of comprehension for the universal social order and reason beyond the individual, starting from the expression process of despair and depressed desire centered on the personal treatment process of Jungian Analytical Psychology, ending with the confrontation process with the inner forms of collective unconsciousness of Jungian Analytical Psychology and the integrating process of archetypus des Selbst which represents the center of human spirit and wholism. Through this process, Zhu Xi's theory and analytical psychology can be understood as a modern language and methodology of today, and the implication of this study is seeking a harmonious coexistence of individual and society.
