이 글은 엥겔스의 자연변증법에 대한 루카치의 비판을 중심으로 해서 이를 적극적으로 반박하는 데 있다. 루카치는 『역사와 계급의식』에서 엥겔스의 자연변증법을 두 측면에서 비판한다. 첫째, 자연변증법이 독단적 형이상학이 되기 때문에, 역사적 과정의 변증법은 간과된다는 것이다. 둘째, 그 때문에 자연변증법이 기계론을 쉽게 수용함으로써, 인간 자체는 상실된다는 것이다. 루카치는 주객 동일성의 변증법을 통한 인간의 역사적-사회적 실천과 자연의 지양을 통한 인간해방을 강조한다. 그러나 그와 같은 인간해방이 인간에게 언제나 긍정적이지 않고 새로운 소외를 낳을 뿐이다. 더욱이 변증법을 주객동일성에 한정시키는 것도 관념론이라는 비판에 직면하게 된다. 엥겔스의 『자연변증법』은 변증법적 법칙들이 자연의 현실적 법칙들이고 이론적 자연연구에서도 타당하다는 사실을 입증한다. 이것은 『자연변증법』이 자연과 역사의 포괄적 인식체계를 서술한 것이 아니라 오히려 변증법적 법칙들을 자연과학의 성과물들을 속에서 발견해서 발전시키는 것을 뜻한다. 따라서 자연변증법은 자연과 역사에서 변증법적 법칙들을 도출하는 유물 변증법이다.

This article focuses actively on Lukacs’ critique of Engel’s natural dialectic. Lukacs criticizes Engels’ natural dialectic in two respects in his History and Class Consciousness. First, the dialectic of the historical process is overlooked because it becomes an dogmatic metaphysics. Secondly, because natural dialectic easily accept mechanics, human beings themselves are lost. Lukacs emphasizes human liberation through human, historical and social practice through the dialectic of the identification of subject and object. However, such human liberation is not always positive for humans, but produces new alienation. Moreover, the fact that the dialectical method is limited to the identity of subject and object, is also faced with critique of idealism. Engels’ Natural Dialectic proves that dialectical laws are realistic laws of nature and valid for theoretical natural studies. This menas that Natural Dialectic do not describe a comprehensive cognitive system of nature and history, but rather discover and develop dialectical laws in the achievements of natural sciences. Thus, natural dialectic is material dialectic that derive dialectical laws in nature and history.
