Picture books are arts pieces, toys and educational media that give young children aesthetic joys and pleasure and help children’s development of language and perspective taking abilities. Tomi Ungerer is one of the most famous authors of picture books. The main theme of his books is against any prevailing prejudice and distorted prejudice in the society and the child characters represented in the stories are human beings whose nature is pure and innocent without prejudice. The purpose of the study was to analyze the exterior and affective features of child characters represented in Tomi Ungerer’s picture books. As results, the child characters were strong and autonomous human beings who face various problems and difficult situations. Specifically, they were represented as human beings who had responsibility for their own life, tried to realize the values of respect for life, and sought for diversity to the exclusion of prejudice. In conclusion, the child characters of Tomi Unger’s picture books can positively affect young children in forming their perception about the human beings and their world.
