This is an action research with the purpose of exploring the meaning of children’s experiences in free plays. Play is every day life and right of a child, and one of significant factors affecting growth of the child; however, plays in many early childhood settings are conducted by planned and constructed formats. Thus, 40 children aged 4 year were observed while engaging in free plays, and their parents and teachers were interviewed. The results of the study indicate that children’s free play was formed in unstructured space, in unstructured time, and with unstructured toys, and the meanings of their experiences in free play were interactive relationship, inventive play, and responsible for the space where they enjoy playing. Implications of these findings for emphasizing on developmental effects of free play and for facilitating children’s play were discussed.
