Trend Analysis of the Research on Early Childhood Inclusive Education during the Obama Administration

The purpose of this study was to analyze the trend of research regarding early childhood inclusive education in the United States from the year 2009 to the year 2017, inclusive, otherwise known as the Obama administration. 83 articles met the criteria for this study and were used to examine the research trends of inclusion in the American early childhood education settings. Findings show that these 83 articles are divided as follows: 25 articles fall under investi-gative research, 24 are literature research, 21 are experimental studies and 13 are qualitative studies.Out of these 83 articles, the 25 investigative papers were further analyzed to derive the key elements about the successful implementation of inclusive education in early childhood education and care settings. This process resulted in the extraction of 29 implementation elements. The number of papers discussing the same element ranged between 1 and 9 where-as the number of elements investigated by the same paper ranged between 2 and 9. Based on these results, implications for the future research and the field practice are discussed.
