Decentralized water treatment systems are an important element in small-scale water supply facilities. For application in small-scale water facilities, important boundary conditions for decentralized systems include low costs, low maintenance, sustainability. Although some low-cost systems are available, their application is limited by timeconsuming daily operation and maintenance. On the other hand, membrane systems are attractive since they provide an absolute barrier for organic and inorganic compounds. The costs of membrane have decreased rapidly during the last decades and therefore membrane systems have also become within reach for application in low-cost applications. Accordingly, in this study, BWRO membrane was used to evaluate the removal efficiency of heavy metals in groundwater as a source of water for small-scale water supply facilities.
