When nuclear power plants are dismantled, various types of disposal process wastes are generated, ranging from extremely low to high radioactive levels. Among these, washing liquid waste of inside a nuclear reactor with high radiation environment is high radioactive level. These high radioactive liquid waste has to be treated remotely to reduce the radiation exposure of workers. but such technologies have not yet been developed. Accordingly, we attempted to develop next generation decontamination technique by conducting a self-propelled micromotor that can selectively bind to particular radionuclides and move in aqueous solution. We developed a self-propelled micromotor in aqueous solution that adsorbs Cs. The micromotor was fabricated such that the mesoporous silica surface was modified with Cs selective Copper ferrocyanide and its half surface was deposited with Pt that reacted with hydrogen peroxide to generate bubbles for propulsion.
