In order to develop ultraviolet (UV)-curable coatings applicable to precoated metal (PCM), organic-inorganic hybrid UV curable polyurethane (PU)-acrylates were prepared using cage type metacryl-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) as a reactive diluent. First, NCOterminated prepolymer was prepared by using dicyclohexylmethane- 4,4’-diisocyanate (H12MDI) in polycaprolactone diol (PCL) and hydrogenated polybutadiene glycol (HPBD), and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) was used to synthesize a vinyl-terminated urethane-acrylate oligomer. In addition, isobornyl acrylate (IBOA) and methacryl-POSS were added as a reactive diluent to the synthesized oligomer to prepare coatings and the content of methacryl-POSS was varied. And the coatings were applied to a metal plate, followed by UV irradiation, and a cured films were also prepared. We investigated the thermal properties, mechanical properties and light transmittance the cured film.
