Wagner)의‘전략적 차원의 영적 전쟁이론’ (Strategic level spiritual warfare)이 성경해석학적 차원에서 오류임을 논증한다. 특히 그가 신명기 32:8절을 통해 주장하는‘지역귀신’(Territorial Spirits)은 독자반응 성경해석방법의 대표적 구절이다. 이것은 독자반응 해석방법론(Reader-Response Methodology)의 정의와 와그너가 주장한 전략적 차원의 영적전쟁(SLSW)의 상관성의 이해를 요구한다. 동시에 와그너가 신명기 32:8절을 어떻게 전략적 차원의 영적전쟁(SLSW)과 연계시켰는지 살펴야 한다. 결론적으로 독자반응 방법론은 독자의 요구에 맞추어진 해석방법으로 이해될 수 있다. 이런 해석방법은 데카르트, 칸트, 현상학자 후설, 하이데거 그리고 가다머 등의 학자들로부터 발전되었다. 쉽게 말해, 독자반응 해석방법은 ‘작가-본문’의 해석방식이라기보다,‘ 본문-독자’의 해석방법이라고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 오늘날 독자반응 해석방법은 그 상대적 해석의 약점 때문에 많은 성경해석자들로부터 외면을 받는다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 와그너는 성경을 해석할 때 독자반응 해석방법을 사용한다. 이런 점에서 저자는 신명기 32:8절이 와그너가 주장하는 것처럼‘전략적 차원의 영적 전쟁이론’을 뒷받침하지 않음을 증명한다.

This paper demonstrates that C.P. Wagner’s “strategic level spiritual warfare” is hermeneutically an error. In particular, ‘Territorial Spirits’, which he claims through Deuteronomy 32:8, is a representative passage of the Reader-Response methodology. This requires an understanding of the definition of the Reader-Response methodology and its relationship with Wagner’s strategic level of spiritual warfare (SLSW). At the same time, we must examine how Wagner linked Deuteronomy 32:8 with strategic level of spiritual warfare (SLSW). Consequentially, the reader-response methodology can be seen as a method of interpretation tailored to the needs of the reader. This interpretation methodology was developed by scholars such as Descartes, Kant, phenomenologist Husserl, Heidegger and Gadamer. Simply put, reader-response methodology can be seen as a ‘text-reader’ interpretation, rather than an ‘author-text’ interpretation. Because of its relative weakness in interpretation, reader-response methodology is disregarded by many hermeneutics scholars today. Nonetheless, Wagner uses reader-response methodology to interpret the Bible. In this respect, the author demonstrates that Deuteronomy 32:8 does not support the ‘strategic level of spiritual warfare’ as Wagner claims.
