본 논문에서는 지난 40여년 가까이 지속된 한국에서의 기독교 세계관 운동을 개괄한다. 한국의 기독교 세계관 운동은 군사정권 치하의 1970-1980년대에 젊은 지성인들이 기독교적 신앙과 실천의 이원론적 분리를 고민하면서 시작되었다. 초기 세계관 운동에서 선구적 역할을 한 단체를 든다면 1981년에 설립된 ‘기독교대학설립동역회’(이하 동역회)와 1984년에 설립된 ‘기독교학문연구회’(이하 기학연)를 들 수 있다. 원래 동역회(후에 기독학술교육동역회로 개명)(이하 동역회)는 기독교 세계관에 기초한 대학 설립을 목표로 시작되었고, 기학연은 기독교 세계관에 기초한 학문을 목표로 시작되었지만 두 단체 모두 초기 활동은 한국 교회와 사회에서 기독교 세계관의 연구와 확산에 초점이 맞추어져 있었다. 이들을 통해 한국 기독교 세계관 운동은 한국 교회와 사회에 천천히 확산되기 시작했다. 기독교 세계관 운동이 시작된 이후 가장 중요한 사건은 밴쿠버기독교 세계관대학원(VIEW)의 시작과 초기 기독교 세계관 운동의 두 축이었던 동역회와 기학연의 통합이라고 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 한국에서의 기독교 세계관 운동을 네 시기로 나누어 살펴본다: DEW가 시작된 1981년 이전을 태동기로, 1981년부터 VIEW가 설립되던 1997년까지를 확산기로, 그리고 1997년부터 동역회와 기학연이 통합된 2009년 전까지를 제도화기, 두단체의 통합이 이루어진 2009년 이후를 성숙기로 나누어 살펴본다. 특히 본 논문에서는 기독교 세계관 운동의 제도화에 중심적인 역할을 했던 VIEW의 사역에 초점을 맞추어 살펴본다.
In this study, we take a brief look at the historical overview of Christian worldview movement(CWM) in Korea since 1981. CWM in Korea was initiated by young Korean Christians who were struggling with dichotomic division between Christian belief and practice under the military government in the 1970-1980s. In the initiating stage of CWM, there were 2 dominant organizations which lead the movement: Christian University Fellow-workers Association(later renamed as Disciples with Evangelical Worldview, DEW) founded in 1981 and the Korean Society of Christian Studies(KSCS) founded in 1984. Originally DEW was started for founding a university with Christian worldview and KSCS for Christian scholarship. During the 1980s, however, the initial ministries of both organizations were focused on the introduction and dissemination of Christian worldview. Through them, CWM spread and became a movement in Korean church and society. In the history of CWM in Korea, most significant events were the creation of Vancouver Institute for Evangelical Worldview(VIEW) in 1997 and the unification of DEW and KACS in 2009. In this paper we divide the CWM in Korea into 4 periods: Inception(before 1981 when DEW was started), Expansion(from 1981 to 1997 when VIEW was started), Institutionalization(from 1997 to 2009 when DEW and KACS were united), Maturity(after 2009). In particular, we try to give a special attention to VIEW ministry which played a dominant role for institutionalizing CWM.
