인지적 요소가 정서적, 행동적 측면에 긍정적으로 전이될 수 있는가에 대해서는 일부 논쟁이 있다. 이와 관련하여 본 연구는 시민교육에서 정치적 지식이 시민성 함양에 긍정적 효과를 가지는가를 확인하고자 하였다. 연구 문제 검증을 위하여 정치적 지식은 정치 문해력, 시민성은 시민의식으로 설정하여 통계 검증을 실시하였다. 4개 중·고등학교 재학 중인 청소년을 대상으로 정치 문해력과 시민의식에 대한 설문조사를 실시하여 회귀 분석한 결과, 정치 문해력 점수가 높을수록 시민의식 점수가 높아지는 경향이 있음을 확인하였다. 다음으로 총 11가지로 설정한 시민의식 하위 요소별로 정치 문해력이 미치는 효과를 확인하기 위하여 t-검증을 실시하였다. 그 결과 정치 문해력 점수가 높은 집단이 낮은 집단에 비해 참여의식, 공동체 소속감, 공동체 연대감, 타협과 설득의식, 내적 정치효능감, 책임의식의 6가지 하위 요소에서 통계적으로 더 높은 점수를 얻는 것으로 나타났다. 나머지 5가지 하위 요소에서는 일관된 경향성을 확인할 수 없어 추가적인 연구가 요구된다. 정치적 지식의 중요성을 감안해 볼 때 지식 제고를 위한 바람직한 시민교육의 내용과 방법에 대한 연구가 활성화되어야 할 것이다.

Can cognitive aspects be positively transferred to emotional and behavioral aspects? In this regard, this study try to confirm whether the political knowledge has a positive effect on citizenship in civic education. In order to verify the research problem, statistical tests were conducted by setting political knowledge as ‘political literacy’ and citizenship as ‘civic consciousness.’ It was conducted questionnaires on political literacy and civic consciousness among middle and high school students. As a result of the regression analysis, it was confirmed that the higher the political literacy score, the higher the civic consciousness score. In order to verify the effect of political literacy on the sub-factors of civic consciousness, the t-test was conducted. As a result, the group with high political literacy score showed statistically higher score in the six sub-factors of participation consciousness, community affiliation, community solidarity, compromise and persuasion consciousness, internal political efficacy, and sense of responsibility. Further research is needed because the remaining five sub-factors can not be identified as consistent trends. Considering the importance of political knowledge in civic education, research on contents and method of civic education for knowledge should be activated.
