본 연구의 목적은 글로벌 이슈 주제중심의 과학수업에서 중학교 영재들의 과학에 대한 태도가 어떻게 변화하였는지를 알아보는 것이다. 연구 참여자는 지역공동 영재학급 중학교 1학년 20명이며, 수업은 지구온난화를 주제로 하여 총 20차시로 진행되었다. 연구설계는 양적 연구와 질적 연구를 혼합하는 방법을 적용하였으며, 과학에 대한 태도 검사지를 활용하여 수업 전후의 과학에 대한 태도 변화를 분석하였다. 그리고 수업활동지와 모둠활동 녹음자료, 수업성찰일지, 수업평가지, 교사관찰일지 등을 함께 수집하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 글로벌 이슈 주제중심 과학수업에서 나타난 중학교 영재들의 과학에 대한 태도는 통계적으로 유의미하게 나타났다. 과학에 대한 태도 하위영역에서는 ‘과학 가치에 대한 태도’, ‘과학 관련 이슈에 대한 관심’, ‘과학에 대한 책임감’ 영역에서 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 있었다. 글로벌 이슈 주제중심의 과학수업에 참여한 학생들은 글로벌 이슈라는 새로운 개념에 흥미와 관심을 보이기도 했지만 토의를 중심으로 이슈를 탐색하고 해결아이디어를 제안해 가는 과정을 어려워하는 경향을 보이기도 하였다. 또한 실험이나 만들기 등의 활동이 이루어질 때는 흥미를 갖고 글로벌 이슈에 대한 관심을 보이는 반면, 내용을 수렴하는 토의과정이나 글쓰기 등의 활동은 소극적인 경향을 보였다. 이러한 결과를 통해 학생들의 과학에 대한 태도를 좀더 긍정적으로 변화시키기 위해서는 교육내용의 다양화, 수업방법의 변화 등 학생들의 흥미를 증진시킬 수 있는 다양한 방법이 모색될 필요가 있음을 제언하였다.

The purpose of this study is to survey how the attitude toward science among the middle-school gifted students changes in science classes when these classes focus on the topics in global issues. Twenty students in a first-grade middle-school class in a community school for the gifted children. Twenty sessions were conducted on the topic of global warming. This study applied the combination of both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and the attitudes toward science before and after the sessions were analyzed by attitude questionnaire. Besides, class activity notes, group activity recordings, class reflection notes, class evaluation sheets, and teacher’s observation sheets were also collected for the analysis. According to the analysis, there was a statistically significant change in middle school gifted students’ attitude toward science in the classes that focus on topics in global issues. Among the sub-sections of the attitude toward science, statistically significant differences were found in the sections of ‘the attitude toward scientific values,’ ‘the interest toward the issues related to science’ and ‘the responsibility toward science.’ Although the participating students in the science class showed interest in the global issue as it is a new concept for them, they also tended to find difficulty in the process of discussing the issue and suggesting ideas to solve the issue. Additionally, the students showed interest in the global issue in such activities as experiments and crafts, but they nevertheless showed a tendency to be passive in such converging activities as discussion and writing. Based on the result, this study suggests the need for various methods to enhance students’ interest, including diversification of educational contents, teaching method, etc.
