본 연구에서는 A대학의 2008년에서 2017년까지 10년 간 학사 자료를 이용하여 사범대학 학생들의 복수전공, 부전공 또는 연계전공 중 하나를 선택하는 요인을 분석하였다. 교육학과의 경우 특정 과목에 대한 교사 자격증을 취득하기 위해서는 복수전공을 선택해야 하므로 다른 학과에 비해 그 선택 비율이 높을 수 밖에 없다. 사회교육과에서도 복수전공 선택 비율이 국어교육과와 영어교육과에 비해 월등히 높게 나타났다. 이는 2000년대 중반 이후 사회 과목을 담당할 교사에 대한 임용 수요가 국어 또는 영어 과목에 비해 크게 줄어든 것을 반영한다. 복수전공을 선택하는 데는 학과의 특성뿐만 아니라 성별, 성적, 적성 등이 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미쳤다. 성별로는 남학생보다 여학생이 복수전공 또는 연계전공까지 포함한 다중전공을 더 많이 선택했고 성적별로는 전공 평점이 높을수록 복수전공 또는 다중전공을 선택하는 확률이 높아졌다. 적성을 대학수학능력시험 성적으로 측정하면 국어, 영어, 수학 과목과는 달리 사회탐구 과목의 성적이 높을수록 복수전공 또는 다중전공을 선택하는 확률이 높아졌다. 본 연구는 교사 양성이라는 특수 목적 하에 설립된 사범대학에서 다중전공을 선택하는 요인을 분석했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

This study analyzed the factors that seemed to play a role when students enrolled in the college of education chose their multiple majors by using the student transcripts collected over the period of 10 years from 2008 to 2017 at “University A." Because a student must pursue multiple majors in a certain subject in order to acquire a license for teaching such subject in schools, the ratio for selecting multiple majors is significantly higher in the department of education. The ratio was much higher in the department of social studies education than those of other departments. This reflects the fact that the demand for social studies teachers has greatly decreased since the mid-2000s. It appeared that students’ gender, grades and aptitudes also significantly affect students’ selection. The probability of female students to select multiple majors was higher than that of male students. The higher students’ GPA score was for their major, the higher the probability was for them to select multiple majors. Unlike Korean language, English language and mathematics, the higher students’ score was in social science subjects, the more likely they selected multiple majors. This study is significant in that it analyzed the factors of students selecting multiple majors in the college of education established under the special purpose of training students to become teachers.
