One of the typical worldwide financial policy tools for SMEs is credit guarantee system. Credit guarantee system aims at alleviating the risks associated with credit-based trading between business entities. Major role is assisting SMEs who are confronting difficulties in raising funds because of lack of collateral.
Korean credit guarantee system is widely recognized as one of the most successful operation model to overcome the global financial crisis. The system also devoted to the development of export-oriented industry. Moreover, Korean government set up 14 regional credit guarantee foundation for booting local business sector.
The Thailand credit guarantee system has been operated as the direct credit guarantee initiated by Thai Credit Corporation until 2006. But the nation's credit guarantee system has changed into an indirect guarantee system in 2009. Since then the volume has been increased sharply, and affected to the economic stability and job creation.
Based on the comparison analysis of two countries, Korean and Thailand, this study shows that the role and scale of the credit guarantee system could be differ form the scale of economy and the status of financial system.
