A large flood occurred in Thailand, 2011 which was inundated with more than half of the country and due to the flood tremendous casualties and economic losses occurred as well. A lot of factories were damaged, but especially the Japanese automobile companies invested in Thailand suffered major damage because of inundation. They selected Thailand as a foreign production base in ASEAN, so foreign investment was concentrated in Thailand. They were supplying automobile components which were produced in Thailand to other car assembly plants not only located in intra Asia but Japan and around the world. Due to the interruption of automobile components by the Thailand flood, global supply chain of automobile industry collapsed and it damaged to the companies which were not inundated. For this reason, some problems were highlighted to the Japanese traditional automobile supply chain, as it can occur to other global automobile companies; almost all the global automotive companies are watching Japanese company’s responses and new supply chain construction. In this paper, we check and consider the structure and problems of the Japanese automobile industry supply chain focusing on Thailand flood and will propose a solution that can cope with such problems.
