Laos, Cambodia, Burma and Vietnam are situated in South East Asia and have a long and extensive history. At present, these countries are struggling with the influx of capitalism, consumerism and globalization. In embracing changes, they have opened the gate to the international communities and have adopted more flexible political policies to accommodate the trade and foreign investment for a certain period of time. These countries, however, are powerless to the modernized influence: the development and growth in the modern world context have affected them socially and culturally. Dimensions of social issues include poverty, inequality, prostitutes, HIV positive, destroyed traditional cultures, socialism ideology, immigrant labor, labor diaspora and national identity, etc. The fast changing world creates more problems, causing more severe effects to the existing problem stemmed from the liberation and post-war period. The poverty and deteriorated society are getting more serious amidst the influx of consumerism and globalization. Writers from these post-colonial countries are well aware of the phenomenon and mirror the ongoing problems very interestingly and profoundingly in their literary work. They even propose the possible solution and encourage the stakeholders and policy makers to pay attention to these problems and find solutions so that the country will be able to take the cautious step - the best approach of post-colonial development.
