세계평화통일가정연합은 대한민국에서 자생한 신종교 가운데 유일하게 국제적 규모의 평화상을 제정하여 시상하고 있다. 그 평화상의 이름은 ‘선학평화상’이다. 본 논문은 세계평화통일가정연합이 주도하고 있는 선학평화상에 관하여 살펴봄으로써 세계평화통일가정연합의 신앙 이해에 대한 지평을 넓히고자 한다. 선학평화상은 세계평화통일가정연합의 창시자 부부의 이름을 딴 상으로, 평화의 문화를 전 세계로 확산시키는 게 목표이기도 하다. 선학평화상은 평화를 위해 실천적인 삶을 살아온 이들을 기억하며 그러한 삶을 세계적으로 알리고 공유함으로써, 평화 실현의 촉구와 가능성에 대한 희망의 메시지를 전하고자 하는 세계평화통일가정연합 신앙공동체의 활동과 그 노력의 일환이라고 해석된다. 선학평화상은 격년으로 시상식이 개최되고 있으며, 2015년 제1회 선학평화상 시상식이 진행되었다. 선학평화상 수상자는 공동 수상자로 모두 4명이 배출되었으며, 이들의 공통점은 세계평화통일가정연합이 추구하는 이타적인 참사랑의 실천적 삶을 잘 보여주는 본보기의 사례에 해당된다. 세계평화통일가정연합이 선학평화상을 제정하면서 평화의 문화를 확산해 나가고자 힘을 모으고 있는 것은 평화의 세계 실현이라는 신앙의 이상과 실천을 지속적이며, 더욱 적극적으로 전개하기 위한 신앙공동체의 의지를 담아내고 있는 것으로 이해된다. 세계평화통일가정연합은 선학평화상을 통해 평화를 강조하며 지향하는 신앙공동체의 성향을 분명하게 드러내고 있다. 앞으로 역사 속에서 선학평화상의 가치와 그 의의는 지속적으로 배출될 선학평화상의 수상자들을 통해서 평가될 것이다.

Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) is the only church which established an international scale of peace prize among new religions in Korea. The name of the peace prize is called the “Sunhak Peace Prize.” The thesis will helps to understand and broaden the perspective regarding FFWPU ideology by examining the Sunhak Peace Prize. The Sunhak Peace Prize, named after the two married founders of FFWPU, is established with vision to expand the culture of peace world-wide. FFWPU take part in actualizing world peace and encouraging people by memorizing and sharing nominees’ life of service. The Sunhak Peace Prize is held every two years where the first award ceremony took place in 2015 with 4 nominees. The commonality is that all the nominees pursue an altruistic life of True Love as the FFWPU practice. The Sunhak Peace Prize reflects the FFWPU’s determination as a faith-based community to proactively and persistently lead the culture of peace and ideal faith even more. The FFWPU evidently shows the character of faith-based organization that strive for world peace through the activities of Sunhak Peace Prize. From now Sunhak Peace Prize will be continuously measured by its award recipients and they themselves will be the manifestation of Sunhak ceremony’s value and significance throughout the history.
