In Korea, small-scale reclaimed areas have been suffering many troublesome problems because of lack of comprehensiveness in developing strategy although considerable investment had been inputed by the public sectors since 1970’s. For 3 reclaimed sites in Chonnam Province chosen as case study areas, the first attempt of widely-spanned analyses on areal conditions concentrated on their population structure and housing conditions. Its reseach results were as follows ;
1. The deep-seated conflicts in the treatment of ownership for reclaimed farmland between local farmers and government resulted in a harmful obstacle for stable farming during early settling period against harsh environment.
2. Basically, all-sided rural reconstruction efforts should be carried out for smoothly transferring of areal economic and settlement structures with special reference to reclamation sclae.
3. Main reasons of outmigration were considered as education and employment, while the former was more crucial factor in better accessible areas and the latter in remoter areas.
4. The housing condition was very poor because one-third of all houses had been constructed before 1960 and few of them has equipped basic amenities like as piped water, inside water-closet and fixed bath. Therefore, over half of households surveyed in this study wanted to modernize kitchen, toilet and other house facilities.
