김승옥은 한국 소설사에서 1960년대를 대표하는 작가들 중의 한 명이다. 전쟁을 직접 체험했던 50년대의 작가들과 비교하면 1960년대의 작가들에게는 전쟁 체험이 내면화되어 나타난다. 김승옥의 작품은 60년대의 정서를 다른 작가들에 비해 분명하게 드러내주었기 때문에 그의 작품에 대한 연구가 폭넓게 진행되었다. 그럼에도 김승옥 소설의 여성 인물들을 분석한 연구는 많지 않았다. 김승옥 소설이 추구하는 주제들 중의 하나가 남성 인물들의 자기세계 정립이기 때문에 상대적으로 여성 인물들에 대한 관심이 크지 않았던 점에 그 원인이 있을 것이다. 이에 본고에서는 정신분석학적 방법으로 밝혀낼 수 있는 여성 인물들의 특성 탐구에 주목하였다. 김승옥 소설의 남성 인물들은 스스로의 노력만으로 자기세계를 만들어내기보다 자기세계를 이루어나가는 과정에서 여성 인물들의 도움을 받는 경우가 대부분이다. 이 때 여성 인물들의 역할 유형을 자기세계로 건너가기 위한 징검다리, 자기세계 모색 과정의 도피처, 불안한 안식처로 나누어 살펴보았다. 자기세계로 건너가기 위한 징검다리 역할을 하는 여성 인물은 「건」의 윤희 누나, 「환상수첩」의 선애, 「생명연습」의 한 교수의 애인이었던 정순 등이 있으며, 자기세계 모색 과정의 도피처 역할을 하는 여성 인물은 「무진기행」의 하인숙, 그리고 불안한 안식처 역할을 하는 여성 인물은 「생명연습」의 누나와 「무진기행」의 아내가 있다. 이후에 연구되는 김승옥 소설의 여성 인물들에 대한 다각적이며 보다 깊이 있는 분석이 이루어지기를 기대해본다.

Kim Seung-ok is one of the writers representing the 1960s in Korean literary history. In comparison with the artists of the 1950s, who experienced war directly in their works, the writers of the 1960s appear to be internalizing the war experience. Since Kim Seung-ok’s works clearly revealed the emotions of the 1960s, various studies on his works were conducted. However, there are not many studies analyzing female characters of Kim Seung-ok’s novel. One of the subjects pursued by Kim Seung-ok is that the male characters are establishing their own world. This paper focused on exploring the characteristics of female characters that can be revealed by psychoanalytic methods. Most of the male characters of Kim Seung-ok’s novel were helped by female characters in the course of making their own world rather than creating their own world by their own efforts. At this time, I divided into three parts: stepping stone to cross the role type of female characters to their own world, refuge in the process of searching for the world, and unstable haven. I hope to have a diverse and in-depth analysis of female characters in Kim Seung-ok’s novels.
