본 연구는 영재교육 경험 유무에 따른 대학전공 선택과 대학생활 스트레스의 차이를 살펴보고, 진로 확신에 대한 예측력을 조사하였다. 이를 위해서, K 영재교육원에 다닌 경험이 있는 대학생(n = 92)과 영재교육원에 다닌 경험이 없는 대학생(n = 88)을 대상으로 대학전공 선택의 이유와 현재 대학생활 스트레스에 관해 조사하고 진로 확신에 대한 예측력을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 영재교육 경험 유무에 따라 대학전공을 선택한 이유에서 차이가 나타났다. 영재교육 경험이 있는 대학생이 그렇지 않은 대학생에 비해, ‘학창시절 경험’과 ‘사회적 인정’ 때문에 자신의 대학전공을 선택하는 것으로 나타났다. 대학생활 스트레스는 영재교육 경험과 성에 따라 ‘대학적응,’ ‘정체성,’ 그리고 ‘학과공부’에서 차이가 나타났다. 영재교육 경험이 있는 대학생이 영재교육 경험이 없는 대학생에 비해 대학생활 스트레스가 낮았다. 즉, 영재교육 경험이 있는 학생일수록 대학에 대한 적응을 잘하고, 자신의 정체성에 대한 스트레스도 적으며, 학과공부로 인한 고민도 적게 하였다. 한편 진로 확신에 대한 대학전공 선택의 이유와 대학생활 스트레스의 예측력을 조사하였을 때, 영재교육의 경험을 가진 대학생의 경우 ‘개인적성’에 기초한 전공 선택과 ‘학과’공부에 대한 스트레스가 진로 확신을 통계적으로 유의하게 예측하였다. 이에 비해, 영재교육 경험이 없는 대학생의 경우는 ‘대학적응’ 스트레스가 진로 확신을 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구는 진로상담에서 대학전공 선택과 대학생활 스트레스 관리의 중요성을 시사하였다.

The present study explored the differences in reasons of college major selection and stresses of college life with college students(n = 92) having K gifted educational experience and their counterparts(n = 88). This study was to examine career confidence predictions with reasons of college major selection and stresses of college life. Results indicated that there were differences in reasons of college major selection by existence of students’ gifted educational experience. College students having K gifted educational experience selected majors more with ‘experience of their school days’ and ‘social acknowledgement.’ Also, there were significant differences in stresses of college life by existence of students’ gifted educational experience and interaction of existence of gifted educational experience and gender. College students having gifted educational experience showed less stress in ‘college adjustment,’ ‘identity,’ and ‘GPA’ thorough college life than their counterparts. When this study explored the prediction of career confidence by existence of gifted educational experience, ‘personal aptitude’ reason in major selection and ‘GPA’ stresses in college life predicted career confidence of college students having gifted educational experience. Meanwhile, ‘college adjustment’ in college life stresses predicted career confidence of general college students. For these significant results, this study analyzed the possibile reasons and suggested the implications for career counseling.
