미야자와 겐지(宮澤賢治)와 권정생의 비교 연구는 권정생이 어린 시절부터 겐지의 작품을 읽었다고 고백하는 지점에서 출발한다. 이 두 작가가 경험한 가족의 죽음은 평생 그들의 의식에서 사라지지 않았다. 각각의 형제 도시코와 목생, 가시관의 예수는 바로 이 두 작가들의 정신적 반려자였다. 이 두 작가는 평생 결혼하지 않고 독신으로 살았으며, 결핵을 앓다 죽어갔던 그들의 병력으로 인해 죽음 의식이 작품에 깊게 투영되어 있다. 이들에게 죽음은 자신들의 지병과 가족의 죽음을 통해서 늘 가까이 있었으며, 작품은 자연히 천상에 대한 동경을 불러일으키고 있다.
그들이 <은하철도의 밤(銀河鐵道の夜)>과 <똘배가 보고 온 달나라>에서 본 천상은 아름답고 환상적인 공간으로 조형되어 있다. 겐지는 천상을 신비한 고귀함, 영원성을 보여주는 멋진 공간으로, 권정생은 아름다운 하늘의 별이 모여 있는 은하수와 계수나무의 향이 가득한 달나라로 바꾸어 놓았다. ‘조반니’ 와 ‘똘배’가 처한 상황이나 현실은 모두 부정적이었으며 절망이라는 공통분모를 가지고 있었지만, 은하와 천상 여행은 이들의 두려움이나 불안, 고통을 사라지게 하며, 현실 세계를 바라보는 시각을 확장시켜 내면의 눈을 뜨게 하는
계기로 작용한다. 이들은 천상 여행을 통해 성숙하게 된다. 그것은 죽음마저도 초월할 수 있는 마음의 힘을 길러주는 여정이었다.
The comparative study of Kenji Miyazawa (宮澤賢治) and Kwon Jeongsaeng starts from the point where Kwon Jeongsaeng confesses that he read Kenji’s work from his childhood and was influenced by him. Genji has transformed into is a wonderful space showing mysterious, noble, and eternality, and Kwon Jeongsaeng has transformed into a Milky Way where beautiful stars are gathered. Although the situation and reality of Giovanni and tolbae all have a common denominator of negative and desperate, their fears, anxiety, and pain serve as an opportunity to expand the view of the real world through galaxies and heavenly travels and to open their inner eyes. They mature through heavenly travel. It was a journey that fostered the power of the mind that could transcend even death.
