본문은 바르트의 스코틀랜드 신앙고백 해석을 중심으로 오늘의 한국교회를 성찰하기 위한 시각을 얻는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 특히 바르트의 신앙고백해석을 다루는 이유는 그가 시대적 맥락 속에서 이 신앙고백을 상황에 맞게 새롭게 해석하고자 하는 시도를 보여주었기 때문이다. 종교개혁의 과제는 본질적으로 근원으로(ad fontes) 돌아가는 운동이었으며, 진리를 향한 싸움이었다. 오늘 한국교회에 제기되는 질문은 크게 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다고 할 수 있다. 우리는 신앙의 향방을 정할 때, 어떤 근거에서, 그리고 어떤 자세로 지향해 나갈 것인가? 둘째로 세상에 대해 온전한 과제를 수행하는 교회로 어떻게 자리잡아 나갈 수 있을 것인가. 여기에 따라 신앙의 중심이 무엇인가에 대한 확인, 세속권력을 비롯한 힘에 대한 자세의 정립, 그리고 역사의 흐름 속에서 어떠한 향방을 모색해야 할 것인가라는 질문이 이어진다. 본문은 신앙고백의 조항 자체의 내용과 더불어 그 배경정신에 대해 살펴보면서 해석과 적용을 모색하는 것을 목표로 한다. 본문은 또한 바르트가 스코틀랜드 신앙고백에서 발견한 ‘정치적 예배’의 개념의 고찰과 더불어 권력과 힘의 관계, 교회와 사회의 관계, 그리고 기독교인의 삶의 문제와 같은 주제들을 다루어나가고자 한다. 동시에 상황적 도전 속에서 신앙고백을 어떻게 현재화해 나갔는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 마지막으로 한국교회의 모습에 대해 성찰하면서 교회의 나아갈 방향에 대해 모색해 보고자 한다.

This paper aims to examine today’s Korean Church from the perspective of K. Barth’s Interpretation of the Confessio Scotica. Much attention is paid to Barth’s contextual reading of the Reformed confession, for he tries to reinterpret it against the challenges of political situation of the time. Fundamentally, the goal of Reformation is to return to the root of Christianity (ad fontes), and it is struggle toward the truth both for the church itself and for the world. Korean church faces the question of what should be the basis in choosing the direction of faith, and what attitude to assume in moving in that direction; and how, in the contemporary world, to establish its ministry for it. Following these are another set of questions as to what is at the core of faith, how to deal with powers including secular power, and where to head in the torrent of history. This paper takes a look at the main themes of Confession itself and its philosophical background in light of Barth to find interpretation and application of it. Along with examination of the concept of Politischer Gottesdienst found by Barth in the Confessio Scotica , it deals with the themes such as the relationship between powers, the relationship between church and society, and the life of Christians. At the same time, it touches on how the confession manifests in the context of challenges of the time. Finally, the state of today’s Korean church is examined, and the future direction for Korean church is considered.
