TV나 영화를 통해 종종 목격되는 키스 장면은 이제는 더 이상 낯선 풍경이 아니다. 성인남녀의 지극히 사적 영역에 속하는 입을 맞추는 행위가 우리의 삶속에서 아무렇지도 않게 자리 잡고 있는 셈이다. 그런데 오늘날과 같은 〈키스의 일상화〉는, 지금으로부터 100년 이상 거슬러 올라간 시기 ‘키쓰’가 각축전을 벌이던 ‘접문(接吻)’을 제치고 일상성을 획득하는 과정을 거치면서 자리를 잡았다. 이러한 ‘키쓰’는 연애문화가 형성되는 초기 단계 한반도에서 ‘자유연애’를 구체적으로 나타내는 구현체였다. 문학에서 ‘키쓰’가 간헐적으로 나타나는 것에 대해 잡지 미디어에는 빈번히 출현하는데, 세태비평을 기조로 비난이 쏟아지지만 그것의 관심사는 여러 방면에 걸쳐 있다. 문학사에서 이름조차 거론된 적이 없는 지금은 그저 ‘잡저’로 처리되는 글에서 ‘키쓰’는 미혼 남녀가 전제되거나 부부끼리도 가능한 것으로 근대 연애의 주체를 〈교육을 받은 기혼 남성 대 미혼 여성〉이라는 문학에서 흔히 발견되는 구도에 가두지 않는다. 서양흉내이기만 했던 ‘키쓰’에 ‘예술성’을 덧씌워 키스가 문화로 정착할 수 있는 근거를 마련하기도 한다. 문학의 연애가 구습에 얽매어서 고심할 때, 잡저는 한 걸음 더 나아가 연애를 대중이 향유할 수 있는 전유물로 만들고 있었던 것이다. 근대 연애문화의 형성과정에 있어서 이들 잡저의 역할이 고려되어야 할 대목이라 하겠다. 한편 관념적 연애가 일상적 차원에서 문화로 정착하는 과정에는 키스에 대한 신문미디어의 접근 방식이 관여하는 바가 크다. 1920∼30년대 조선 사회에서 키스는 ‘비행’, ‘변태’, ‘위생 문제’ 등 부정적인 측면이 노출되는 한편에서 ‘文明發達의一種’으로 긍정적으로 거론되는데, 새로이 생긴 연애문화를 만들어간다는 측면에서 미디어는 각기 다른 태도를 보여주었다. 키스의 부정적 측면을 조명한 『조선일보』에 대해 『조선중앙일보』가 이문화 소개 차원에 머물렀다고 한다면, 『동아일보』와 『매일신보』는 이에 덧붙여서 조선 사회 내 사건·사고에 주목하는 동시에 키스를 문명과 결부시키면서 그것의 밝은 측면을 조명했다.

That is the foundation which the kiss settled down to the culture wrapped with ‘the art’ on ‘the KISS’ showing the Occident imitation. When the love of the literature was stict to the old customs, one step further 'the miscellany' is making an exclusive property which the public can enjoy the love. We should consider the role of 'the miscellany' in the process of the formation of the modern love culture. Meanwhile, the approach method is very involved in the kiss in process that the abstract love of the literature settled in the culture. The media in the 1920-30’s Chosun society exposed the negative aspect of the kiss in regards to 'the juvenile', 'the abnormal sexuality', 'the sanitation issue' etc. on the one hand, showed the positive aspect of the kiss in the way that the kiss was making the newly-born love culture, in a kind of the civilization development on the other hand. When 『the ChosunJoongang Ilbo』 in contrary to 『the Chosun Ilbo』 showing the negative aspect on the kiss cast light upon the introduction of the different culture, with this 『the Dongah Ilbo』 and 『the Maeil Shinbo』 illuminated the kiss associated with the civilization at the same time of paying attention of the accident and the case in the Chosun society.
