본 연구는 이상과 같이 박광수의 영화 <이재수의 난> 사례를 통해 영화가 역사를 증언하는 데 혹은 널리 전하는 데 어떤 역할을 할 수 있는지를 고찰하고, 역사와 영화의 학제적 연결고리들을 추출해내고자 하였다. 또한 종교계와 사학계, 혹은 서구와 한국, 제국주의와 탈식민주의 등 각각의 다른 시각으로 논쟁이 계속되어 온 제주민란을 내용으로 한 영화 <이재수의 난>을 통해 영화가 어떻게 역사를 상기시키는가를 살펴보고자 했으며, 문학작품(소설)-시나리오-영화-역사의 재해석 등의 내용을 살펴봄으로써 영화의 인문학적 의의를 밝히고자 하였다. 이에 진정한 역사를 되찾기 위한 계속된 글쓰기의 의무란 무엇이며, 어떻게 이미지를 동반한 글쓰기라 할 수 있는 영화가 그러한 역사 다시 보기, 되찾기 혹은 다시 쓰기의 중요한 의무를 수행할 수 있는지를 유출해 볼수 있었다. 우선 첫 번째 장에서는 영화 <이재수의 난> 영화 분석을 통해 제주민란에 대한 다양한 관점의 원인을 이해하고자 영화 속 대립구도에 드러나는 다층적 관점에 대해 살펴보았으며, 두 번째 장에서는 제주민란에 대한 주요한 두 관점, 즉 한국 근대사에서 바라보는 관점과 프랑스나 천주교 측의 관점에 대해 살펴보았다. 마지막으로는 영화가 역사적 진실의 환기와 해석에 있어 계속된 글쓰기를 해나가는 인문학적 역할에 대해 고찰해보았다. 역사는 이미 서술된 것이기도 하지만 앞으로 계속 서술될 수 있는 것이기도 하다. 프랑스의 철학자 푸코가 이미 지식과 권력 개념을 사용하여 권력의 획득수단으로 지식체계가 이용되었음을 주장하였고, 미국의 문화비평가 에드워드 사이드가 제국주의의 구성물로 유럽의 시각에 의해 서술된 역사에 이의를 제기하였듯, 역사 역시 구성된 서사물이며 허구성이 가미된 일종의 문학임을 직시한다면, 역사는 더욱 더 진실한 역사를 밝히기 위해 계속 서술되어야만 할 것이다. 새로 발굴되는 사료들, 문학, 영화 등이 그러한 계속적인 글쓰기에 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 특히 영화는 이미지를 통해 메시지를 전달하기에 대중들에게 역사를 환기시킬 기회를 다른 분야보다 더욱 폭넓게 제공할 수 있는 장점이 있으므로 보다 더 적극적인 역사서술 도구로서의 역할을 담당해야 할 것이다.

The study examined the role of films in proving or spreading history through Park Kwang-soo's films < Lee Jae-soo's revolt >, and explored links between history and film. Also, througn this film, we have examined the history of Jeju riots which continued to be debated with different perspectives : the religious and academic circles, Western and Korean, imperialism, and decolonialism. We wanted to explain the humanistic significance of movies by examining literary works (novels), scenarios, movies, and interpretations of history. First, we looked at the different alluvial points of view that appear in the plot of the characters in the movie after analyzing the movies in order of the major historical events. In Chapter 2, we looked at the historical event 'Lee Jae-soo's Revolt' from a modern Korean point of view, from the French and Catholic points of view, which were revealed in French diplomatic materials. Finally, Chapter 3 stated what is the duty of continuous writing to reclaim a true history, and how an image accompanying film can be rewritten with an important release of such a history. French philosopher Foucault argued using knowledge and power that the knowledge system had already been used as a means to acquire power and American cultural critic Edward Said raised an objection to the history written by European eyes as a component of imperialism. If history is also an constructed epic and presents itself as a kind of literature with fiction in it, it should be explained over and over again to reveal a more truthful history. Newly-discovered feeds, literature, and movies could be used in such ongoing writing. In particular, films should serve as a more aggressive historical narration tool, as they offer the public a wider opportunity to draw up a story than other areas of the world by communicating messages via images.
