이 硏究는 2차에 걸쳐 관찰된 國語 授業을 분석 대상으로 하여 진행되었다. 1차에서는 초등학교 6학년 국어 수업을, 2차에서는 2학년 국어 수업을 각각 觀察하였다. 총 32차시의 수업을 관찰 및 녹화하였으나, 그 중에서 본 차시 수업(21차시)만을 분석 대상으로 삼았다. 그리고 言語活動을 여덟 가지 유형(읽기, 쓰기, 듣기, 말듣, 읽듣, 듣쓰, 보듣, 말듣쓰)으로 나누고, 여기에 非言語活動(만들기, 그리기 등)을 포함하여 아홉 가지 기준으로 분석하였다. 먼저, 국어 수업은 ‘말하기·듣기’ 활동 중심이었다. 그리고 국어 수업에서 보여 준 언어활동은 두 가지 이상의 영역이 複合的으로 나타나는 언어활동의 비율이 높았다. 즉 전적으로 읽거나 쓰는 활동보다는 들으면서 읽거나 말하거나 쓰는 활동이 더 자주 나타난다는 것이다. 이것은 수업 중에 나타나는 언어활동을 分析하는 것은 쉬운 일이 아니라는 점과, 인간의 언어 사용은 總體的으로 이루어진다는 점을 시사한다.

This study was based on the participant's observation of two Korean Language Arts classes. Korean Language Arts classes for 6th graders and 2nd graders were observed, respectively. The total of 32 class observations were video-recorded but out of them, main class observations were analyzed in this study. As analytic criteria, both aspects of a verbal activity were set. The aspects of a verbal activity were categorized into 8 groups(reading, writing, listening, speaking·listening, reading·listening, listening·writing, seeing·listening, speaking·listening·writing) and additionally a nonverbal activity(making, drawing, singing etc.) was added to the groups. Thus, total of 9 different groups were constructed. First of all, lessons were verbally centered and especially ‘speaking and listening' were prominent. Similar to other subject areas, a verbal activity in Korean Language Arts classes was a means for instruction-learning but different from them, it itself was a purpose. Thus, ‘speaking and listening' education should be emphasized. Secondly, a verbal activity in the classes seemed to happen in two more complex areas rather than in one specific area. That is, reading while listening or writing while listening was more frequent than exclusively reading or writing. This indicated the two following implications: First, it is not an easy task to analyze a verbal activity in classes and second, human language usage is interrelated.
