지금까지의 消滅語 硏究는 주로 近代國語 以前 단계의 資料를 對象으로 이루어졌다. 그러나 이 글에서는 近代國語 이전 단계에서는 複合語였으나 現代國語에서 語彙化 過程에 있는 單語를 검토함으로써 현대국어 자료를 통하여 소멸어를 찾을 수 있는 방법을 살펴보았다. 어휘화 과정에 있는 단어 안에 있는, 化石 形態의 성분이 바로 그 이전 시기에 존재하였던 단어의 흔적, 곧 消滅語인 것이다. 이러한 분석을 통하여 우리는 현대어 ‘가라앉-’을 ‘□-+-아+앉-’으로 분석하여 소멸어 ‘*□-’을 찾았고, 현대어 ‘주저앉-’를 ‘□-+-어+앉-’으로 분석하여 소멸어 ‘*□-’을 확인하였다. 또한 ‘다가가다’와 ‘무너지다’ 속에 있는 ‘다그-’와 ‘무느-’의 쓰임도 살펴보았는데, 이 단어들 역시 현대국어에서 거의 單獨形으로 나타나지 않아 앞으로 消滅語가 될 可能性이 있다. 앞으로 이러한 分析 方法을 통하여 더 많은 소멸어를 찾을 수 있으리라 期待해 본다.

This study aims to examine a new method of analysis of dead words in Korean. Until now the studies on dead words have focussed on middle Korean and modern Korean. Because dead words mean the words which have been already disappeared in contemporary Korean. But I analyzed lexicalized words in contemporary Korean and discovered some dead words in them. Through this method I found the dead word ‘GAL-'(*□-) in con- temporary Korean word ‘GARAANJDA' and ‘JUJ-'(*□-) in contemporary Korean word ‘JUJEOANJDA'. ‘GARAANJDA' can be analyzed into ‘GAL-+-A+ANJ-', and ‘JUJEOANJDA' can be analyzed into ‘JUJ-+-EO+ ANJ-'. And I examined ‘DAG-'(다그-) in ‘DAGAGADA' and ‘MUNEO-'(무느-) in ‘MUNEOJIDA'. It is possible that these words will become dead words someday. If we will make use of this method, we will be able to find lots of dead words in contemporary Korean.
