「나나봉젼」은 현재 鮮文大學校 中韓飜譯文獻硏究所에 소장된 상·하권의 한글 筆寫本 소설이다. 상권에서는 주로 전란에 의한 가족 이산과 피난 과정 등 왕부인의 수난을 다루었으며, 하권에서는 나나봉의 성장과 結緣, 전장에서의 활약상, 가족 상봉 등을 다루었다. 작품의 전반적인 서사구조는 英雄小說에 가깝지만, 나나봉의 胎夢과 軍談, 結緣談이 생략되거나 매우 소략하게 제시되고, 그가 도적의 신분으로 의병 활동을 벌이는 점 등은 전형적인 영웅소설과 대비되는 부분이다. 또한 나나봉의 활약상 이상으로 왕부인의 수난이 크게 강조되며 현실 공간의 핍진성과 향토성이 부각된다는 점 역시 「나나봉젼」의 특징으로 꼽을 수 있다. 「나나봉젼」은 前代 소설의 군담과 여성수난담 등을 수용하는 동시에 세부 서사에 변화를 줌으로써, '群盜의 義兵 활동'과 '戰亂에 의한 女性의 受難', '현실 공간의 逼眞性과 鄕土性 강화'라는 서사적 특징을 보인다. 이러한 부분은 20세기 초반에 향유되던 고전소설의 새로운 경향을 보여준다고 볼 수 있다.

This paper is the first study about the Korean classical novel, Nana- bong-jeon. This novel is a transcription in Hangul and is possessed in Sun- moon University. The first half of the novel contains Mrs. Wang's sufferings, family's separation and refugee life during wartime. The other half shows Nanabong's growth, love, activities in war, and his family reunion. The overall narrative structure of the novel is close to "hero novel", it differs from the conventional heroic novels in that the novel lightly treats Nanabong's con- ception dreams, military stories, and love stories. And specifically deals with his civilian army activities. Also, Mrs. Wang's ordeal is emphasized as much as Nanabong's activity. Nanabong-jeon basically follows the previous generation's military stories and women suffering stories. However, it gives variation in the narrative details, showing characteristics such as "civilian army activity of by a group of thieves", "suffering of women during wartime", and "local features and verisimilitude to the real world". These features show a new tendency of the early 20th century's Korean classic novels.
