이 조목은 관음보살의 현신에 따른 두 인물의 득도과정을 세밀하게 그려내고 있다. 관음보살은 중생의 根機에 따라 苦節한 성향의 自利的 小乘的 인물인 달달박박에게는 誘惑女人으로, 騰騰한 성향의 利他的 大乘的 인물인 노힐부득에게는 可憐女人으로 현신하여 詞와 偈로써 시험하였다. 苦節한 달달박박에게는 現實離脫的인 엄격함이 요구되었고, 騰騰한 노힐부득에게는 現實順應的인 자비로움이 요구되었다. 결국 두 수행자는 관음보살의 상이한 시험에 적절하게 응대함으로써 공히 得道하였다. 일연은 이 조목의 감흥을 3수의 讚을 통해 드러냈다. 그는 달달박박과 노힐부득의 여인에 대한 태도를 공히 긍정하였으며, 그들의 상이한 성향과 수행방식이 하나라는 점을 암시하였다. 일연은 이 조목에 등장하는 두 수행자의 득도과정이 기울어져가는 高麗가 지향해야 할 정신세계의 典範이자 국가적 理想이라 보았던 것이다.
This article depicts in detail the process of spiritual enlightenment of the two figures according to incarnation of the Avalokitesvara(Buddhist Goddess of Mercy). Buddhist Goddess of Mercy appears differently depending on the inclination and method of asceticism of mankind, and helps their difficulty. Therefore Buddhist Goddess of Mercy appeared to Daldalbakbak(??朴朴) as a fascinating woman and tested him on ascetic practices by a lyric poem(詞). Because Daldalbakbak was a character of type that is very rigid, he cultivated severely with resolute attitude as a monk of Hinayana. The other hand, Buddhist Goddess of Mercy appeared to Nohilbudeuk(努?夫得) as a pitiful woman and tested him on ascetic practices by a Gatha(偈). Because Nohilbudeuk was a character of type that is very flexible, he cultivated freely with confident attitude as a monk of Mahayana. Daldalbakbak was required strictness that escape from reality, on the other side Nohilbudeuk was required compassion that conform to reality. Finally they all achieved the ideal of spiritual enlightenment by passing Avalokitesvara's test. Ilyeon(一然) expressed his inspiration by three praise poems(讚). He took a positive view of two ascetics' attitude toward a visiting woman. He hinted that inclination and method of asceticism of two ascetics are one. He wanted to say that the process of spiritual enlightenment of two ascetics in this article was a paragon of mental world and national ideal which had kept up Koryo dynasty.
