본고는 ‘微物’로 볼 수 있는 시어가 나타나는 작품을 사설시조와 잡가 갈래에서 찾고, 각 작품에 등장하는 ‘미물’들이 어떤 의미와 시적 기능을 지니고 있는지에 대해 살펴보았다. 본고에서 살핀 바에 따르면 고전시가의 세부 갈래인 사설시조와 잡가에도 다양한 미물이 활용되어 있다는 것이 확인되었다. 그리고 사설시조와 잡가에 활용된 미물은 그 의미와 시적 기능에 따라 1) 웃음을 유발하는 소재, 2) 삶의 현실과 세태의 반영물, 3) 애정 표현의 매개물로 분류하여 볼 수 있다. 사설시조와 잡가에서 다양한 미물을 활용하는 것은 조선 후기의 사상과 예술에 나타난 변화와 동일한 맥락에서 이루어진 것으로 이해할 수 있다. 실학사상의 등장, 자아와 세상 만물에 관한 사고의 변화, 작은 존재들도 그것 나름대로의 가치와 의미를 지닌다는 생각 등이 시가 작품창작에 미물을 활용하게 된 사상적 배경을 이룬다. 그리고 작품 속에 미물을 적극적으로 수용하는 창작 경향은 사설시조와 잡가가 근대적 문예 물로 성장하고 있었다는 것을 보여주는 지표로 이해할 수도 있다.

In this paper, I have searched for works in which poetry ‘little things’(微 物) can be found in Saseolsijo(辭說時調) and Japga(雜歌), and examined the meaning and poetic function of them in each work. So far, there have been many discussions on the ‘little things’(微物) expressed in the works of Sino-Korean literature. In this paper, it has been confirmed that various ‘little things’(微物) are also utilized in Saseolsijo(辭說時調) and Japga(雜歌) which are the subdivisions of Korean classical poetry. And the ‘little things’(微物) used in Saseolsijo(辭說時調) and Japga(雜歌) can be classified according to their meaning and poetic function as 1) materials that cause laughter, 2) reflection of the reality of life, and 3) medium of affection. Utilizing various ‘little things’(微物) in Saseolsijo(辭說時調) and Japga(雜 歌) can be understood to be made in the same context as the changes in thought and art in the late Joseon period. The emergence of the practical science philosophy(實學思想), the change of thinking about the self and the world, and the idea that the small beings have their own values and meanings became an ideological background in which ‘little things’(微物) are utilized in the creation of Korean classical poetry. And the composing tendency to actively accept the ‘little things’(微物) in the works can be understood as an indicator that Saseolsijo(辭說時調) and Japga(雜歌) were growing as modern literary arts.
