1900년대 小說에서는 男性 主人公이 不在하거나 葛藤을 回避하는 人物로 그려짐으로써 男性의 役割이 社會적 狀況 속에서 弱化되어가고 있음을 보여준다. 반면에 1900년대 小說에서는 女性들에게로 視線을 집중한다. 1900년대 男性 作家들은 시대의 懸案으로부터 女性에게로 도망을 친 것이다. 그래서 小說들은 女性人物들의 섹슈얼리티에 대해 끊임없이 호기심을 보이고, 그들을 강간하거나 人身賣買한다. 그리고 때로는 性的 慾望을 드러내는 女性들을 登場시키기도 한다. 1900년대에는 男女同等權이 주창되었고, 국가적 危機 속에서 女性들의 목소리와 역할론이 浮上하고 있었다. 男性들은 이러한 女性의 變化에 한편으로는 讚辭를 보내고 同調하면서도 다른 한편으로는 이러한 變化와 女性의 成長을 두려워했다. 成長해 가는 女性들의 지위를 의심의 눈으로 바라보고 女性들의 섹슈얼리티를 지나치게 강조하는 방식으로 女性을 排除하고 差別함으로써 男性들의 호모소셜리티가 構築되었다.

I would like to describe the overall flow of modern Korean women's literature in my own viewpoint, and to discuss the history of modern Korean women's culture and literature, with other scholars or researchers. I aim to ①relate it to the problem of today, ②include history not only of women's literary works but also of men's, ③an addition, refer to history of culture. In order to achieve this aims, I suggest the concept of 'misogyny'. Misogyny is from the men's homo-sociality and irrational discrimination toward women. Men hate women when they feel anxiety and fear about women, because they are afraid of being threatened by women's social growth. By the way, in the writing of Ueno Chizuko, it is very interesting and important point that not only men but women also hate women themselves. As growing up, Ueno says, women are aware of self-hatred by patriarchal system. Thus, I suggest that we should also search the trace of women's self-hatred in women's writings which showed a process of women's growth, failure, overcome, and resist so on. In 1900's literature, masculinity was very weak while feminity was revealed and emphasized by male-writers. And male-writers let heroins be sexual and fallen, as a result they made of misogyny.
