本稿는 金裕貞의 飜譯童話 「귀여운 少女」의 原作 및 底本을 확정하고, 그 飜譯이 갖는 意味를 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. 「귀여운 少女」는 아직까지 飜譯童話라는 점만 알려져 있을 뿐 그 原作 및 底本조차 확인되지 않은 실정이다. 本稿에서는 「귀여운 少女」의 원작이 찰스 디킨스의 『오래된 골동품 상점The old curiosity shop』(1841)이라는 사실을 새롭게 밝혔으며, 그 번역저본이 무라오카 하나코(村岡花子)에 의해 縮約 飜譯된 『디킨스 이야기의 아이들ディッケンス物語の子供たち『(1933)의 「소녀 네리少女 ネリイ」임을 확정하였다. 이와 더불어 金裕貞이 찰스 디킨스의 작품을 飜譯하게 된 脈絡과 그 意味를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 『디킨스 이야기의 아이들』의 머리말과 金裕貞의 수필 「病床의 생각」 등의 문헌을 검토하였다. 그 결과, 金裕貞의 번역 작업이 신심리주의가 지향했던 기교주의와 ‘맬서스-니체’로 범주화되는 사회진화론적 세계관을 비판하는 과정 속에서 이루어진 것임을 확인하였다.

This paper aims to determine the original work and a draft work of ‘Cute Girl’, translated by Kim You Jeong and to find out its meaning. ‘Cute Girl’ is known as a translated children’s story but its original and draft versions have not been determined yet. Against this in backdrop, the paper has newly found out that the original story of ‘Cute Girl’ is ‘The Old Curiosity Shop’ (1841) by Charles Dickens and has confirmed that the draft of ‘Cute Girl’ is ‘Little Nell’ from ‘Children of Dickens' story’, a shortened translation work on Dickens by Hanako Muraoka (1933). Together with this, the paper has looked into the context and its meaning of Kim You Jeong’s translation of Charles Dickens' work. For this, the paper has reviewed the pretext of ‘Children of Dickens's story’ and Kim’s essay, titled ‘Thoughts from a Sickbed’. As a result, it was confirmed that the translation work of Kim was indeed occurred in the criticising process of technicalism pursued by New Psychologism and Social Darwinism world view categorized as ‘Malthus-Nietzche’.
