In 1562, Geneva, Franco-Swedish Christian Reformer John Calvin(1509-1564) published "The Genevan Psalter" (1562). Calvin continued to develop "The Genevan Psalter", which reflects his views on music and worship, through many installments after its publication, including the Strasbourg and Genevan versions(1539-1562), and it has greatly influenced liturgical music worldwide. < Psalm 134 > is one of the most well-known hymns from "The Genevan Psalter", and is frequently sung to this day. Written and composed by Theodore de Beze(1519-1605) based on a melody by Louis Bourgeois(c. 1510-1559), this psalm first appeared in the 1551 edition of "The Genevan Psalter" . Its melody is particularly well-known in France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and has been distributed among and used by reform congregations around the world. This thesis focuses on < Psalm 134 > from "The Genevan Psalter" and traces its origin, application, and development in France, the United Kingdom, and Germany, analyzing the historical changes in each country and their relationships to one another.
