이 연구는 2014년 세월호 참사 이후 5ㆍ18과 4ㆍ16이라는 역사적 사건을 소통하고 있는 세월호 연대의 감정동학을 유족의 상(喪)의 과정과 루트 패러다임(root paradigm)이라는 개념을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 특히 이 글은 세월호 연대의 작동방식에서 드러나는 세 가지 감정동학에 주목했다. 첫째, 5ㆍ18 유가족과 4ㆍ16 유가족의 상호응시과정에서 발현된 원통과 깨달음의 감정동학, 둘째, 세대와 세대를 동시대적으로 엮어 내고 서로를 참조하여 생성되고 있는 후회와 뉘우침의 감정동학, 셋째, 추모의 지역네트워크를 통해 지역과 지역을 연결하며 확대되고 있는 공감장이다. 각각은 유가족과 시민들이 국가폭력에 얽힌 생애사적 고통을 뚫고 역사적 반성의 시간을 만들고 있는 새로운 사회연대의 가능성을 드러내 보여준다. 이 글은 그간 상대적으로 간과되어왔던 사회운동의 감정적 토대와 문화적 동학이라는 관점에서 그 가능성에 구체성을 더해보고자 하였다.

This study examined the emotional dynamics of Sewol-Ferry solidarity, which has echoed the historic events of 5.18 since the accident in 2014, based on the concept of bereaved family mourning and root paradigm. Specifically, this paper focused on three types of emotional dynamics revealed through Sewol-Ferry solidarity: the first is the emotional dynamics of resentfulness and realization expressed as the bereaved families of the May 18th Movement, shared their experiences with the bereaved families of the April 16th Sewol-Ferry accident; the second is the emotional dynamics of regret and repentance created by linking generations contemporarily and referring to each other; and the third is the venue of sympathy, expanded by linking regions through a regional network of remembrance. Each of these emotional dynamics reveals a new phase of solidarity in which bereaved families and citizens are creating a time for historical reflection, overcoming the hardships of life intertwined with state violence. This paper intends to facilitate such solidarity from the perspective of emotional foundations and cultural dynamics of social movements.
