국내 외제차 중 독일의 디젤차가 가장 큰 점유율을 차지하고 있는 상황에서 디젤 자동차배기가스에 대한 우려가 꾸준히 제기됨에 따라 정부는 휘발유와 디젤 가격의 상대가격을 조정함으로써 디젤 자동차의 수요변화를 모색하고 있다. 이러한 상황에서 연료 가격 변화에 따른 각 자동차 유종별 수요분석을 통해 향후 연료 가격 변화가 국내 독일 자동차 수요에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 분기별 및 지역별 패널데이터를 활용해 연료 가격 변화에 따른 유종별 자동차 수요의 변화를 패널모형으로 분석한 결과, 디젤 가격을 인상시킬 경우, 휘발유나 디젤 자동차보다는 대체에너지 자동차의 수요가 증가할 것으로 예상되었다. 반면, 휘발유 가격을 인하시킬 경우, 디젤 자동차나 대체에너지 자동차보다는 휘발유 자동차의 수요가 증가할 것으로 분석되었다. 즉 휘발유 가격을 인하하거나 디젤 가격을 인상하거나에 관계없이 디젤 자동차의 수요는 감소할 것으로 예상된다. 향후 예상되는 디젤 가격 변화에 따른 국내 수입 독일 자동차 판매대수의 변화를 분석한 결과, 가격 인상폭에 따라 정도의 차이는 있겠지만 자동차 판매대수의 감소가 예상되며 국내 수입자동차 시장에서 독일 자동차 브랜드들의 입지가 악화될 것으로 예상된다. 다만 디젤 가격이 인상됨에 따라 대체에너지 차량의 수요는 증가할 것으로 분석되어져, 자동차 업계도 이에 대한 전략적 대응과 대체에너지 차량에 대한 투자가 요구된다.

It has been a social concern that car emission would seriously deteriorate the atmosphere and the Government plans to reduce the diesel cars by adjusting the relative energy price between gasoline and diesel. This study investigates the demand of cars by fuel types in response to changes in fuel prices and forecasts the demand of German cars in Korea. Utilizing panel data, the empirical results present that raising diesel prices would increase the demand of alternative fuel cars. On the contrary, reducing gasoline prices would increase the demand of gasoline cars and decrease that of both diesel and alternative fuel cars. Consequently, no matter which fuel price between gasoline and diesel is adjusted, the demand of diesel cars will be reduced. Based on the empirical results, we expect that the demand of German cars will lose the market share resulting from the increasing diesel price. Other empirical results suggest that the demand of cars using alternative fuels will rise when the diesel price increases. Thus, it is recommended that automobile companies need their strategic responsiveness on the Korean government policy regarding the fuel prices and investment on alternative fuel cars.
