문법이론의 궁극적인 목표는 `정확한 의사소통`이다. 이를 위해 우리는 문법현상에 대해 체계적으로 이해하고 설명하려 한다. 이러한 문법이론의 연구에는 다양한 방법들이 있는데, 이 연구에서는 종적인 연구 방법론 중, 영어전통문법론에 있어 품사에 대한 연구를 통해 영어현대문법론에 있어서 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 영어전통문법론에서의 `문장, 품사, 실사와 형용사의 관계, 수식과 서술관계` 등을 살펴보고, 이후 품사에 대한 집중적인 분석을 통해 영어문법론에서의 문제점에 대한 분석과 현대문법론에 있어서의 대안을 도출한다. 향후에는 이 연구에서의 연구방법들을 활용하여 문장, 실사와 형용사의 관계, 수식과 서술관계 등의 부분에까지 연구를 확장하고자 한다.

The ultimate goal of grammar theory is `correct communication.` To do this, we systematically understand and explain grammatical phenomena. There are various ways of studying these grammatical theories. In this study among the longitudinal research methodology, I would like to suggest implications for contemporary grammatical theory of English through the study of parts of speech in English traditional grammatical theory. To do this, we first examine `the relationship between sentences, parts of speech, actual and adjectives, formulas and narrative relations in English traditional grammar`, and then through intensive analysis of parts of speech, we analyze the problems in English grammar and derive alternatives in modern grammar. In the future, we will extend the research to the parts of sentences, actual and adjective relations, expressions and narrative relations using the research methods in this study.
