4차 산업혁명의 시대에 접어들면서 교육은 빠르게 변화하는 사회에 적응할 수 있는 인간양성에 더욱 박차를 가하고 있다. 문화예술교육은 개인 혹은 사회적으로 직면한 문제를 스스로 헤쳐갈 수 있도록 상상의 공간을 열어준다. 또, 기존에 학교교육이 가지고 있던 제한적 해답을 제시하는 것이 아닌 탐구과정과 질문과정을 거치며 개인의 감정적 해소를 통해 `정화적`상태에 도달하게 한다. 본 연구는 문화예술교육으로서 사진이 어떻게 아이들에게 정화적 기능을 보이는지 수업 전, 후 자아존중감 검사 도구를 활용해 측정해 보고, 사진교육의 효용성과 정화적 기능과의 관계를 증명해 보려한다. 연구자는 학교 예술강사로 충남 논산시 소재의 K초등학교와 B초등학교 5학년 학생 20명을 대상으로 본 연구를 진행하였다. 수업은 총 30차시로 몸으로 구현하기, 질문하기, 깊이 있게 생각하기, 돌아보기/평가하기의 큰 맥락에서 지역특성과 대상을 고려하여 수업을 구성하였고, 참여관찰을 통해 진행했다. 문화예술교육으로서 사진과 그 정화적 기능에 대한 연구결과 감정적 정화를 통해 `자아존중감`이 상승했다. 특히, 총체적·사회적 부분에서 상대적으로 두드러지는 효과를 보였다. 이 결과는 문화예술교육으로서의 사진매체가`나`에 대한 이해를 증대하는 것뿐 아니라, `타인`을 이해하고 수용하는데 있어 효과적임을 시사하고 있다.

Getting into a period of the forth industrial revolution, Education is spurring human traits to adapt to a rapidly changing society. Arts and Culture Education helps people to open their space of imagination to solve their problem faced both personally and socially. Also, it does not present the limited solution that school education had previously provided, but it leads through the inquiry process and the questioning process to reach a `purified/clean` state through emotional resolution of the individual. This research aims to clarify the relationship between the effectiveness of photography education and the purifying function through the courses in two elementary schools, which are located in Nonsan-si, Chungcheongnam. By using the Self-esteem research tool, this paper compared before and after students in the courses. The researcher, who conducted the research of 20 five grade student, is a school art teacher and conducted the research in `K elementary school` and `B elementary school`. The course is consisted of 30 classes in total, taking into consideration of the local characteristics and subjects in the context of physical activity, questioning, critical thinking, recalling and evaluating. This research was conducted by participation observation method. As a result of the photograph and the purifying function as Arts and Culture education, `self-esteem` has risen through emotional cleansing state. In particular, it showed a relatively prominent effect in the overall and social areas. This result suggests that the photographic medium as Arts and Culture Education is effective not only in increasing understanding of `one`s self` but also in understanding and accepting `the others`
