문장 부호는 음성 언어가 지닌 어조와 속도, 고저, 억양 등을 텍스트에서 구체화할 수 있도록 돕는 역할을 한다. 즉 문장 부호는 글쓴이의 의도를 보다 명확히 하기 위해 사용된 것이라는 말이다. 그러나 이러한 기능에도 불구하고, 시를 해석할 때 문장 부호는 여전히 논의의 대상에서 제외되기 십상이었다. 본고는 시어로서의 문장 부호에 대해 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본고는 이수복의 시에 주목한다. 이수복의 시는 문장 부호를 적극적으로 사용하고 있기 때문이다. 따라서 그의 시에 나타난 문장 부호를 읽어내는 것은 그의 작품을 이해하는 데 도움을 줄 뿐만 아니라, 문장 부호의 시어적 효과를 밝히는 데 용이할 것으로 생각된다. 문장 부호에는 여러 가지가 있지만, 본고에서는 특히 이수복의 시에서 상대적으로 큰 비중을 차지하고 있는 점과 선, 괄호를 중심으로 살펴본다. 이처럼 시에 나타난 문장 부호를 시어로 규정하고 접근하는 것은 시인의 의도에 보다 가까운 해석을 할 수 있고 동시에 시 해석의 과정에 풍부함을 제공할 것이라 기대한다. 그동안 시 속의 문장 부호에 별다른 관심을 보이지 않았다면, 본고는 이제 문장 부호가 독자와 시가 대화하는 장을 확장시키는 교두보 역할을 한다는 사실을 자각할 수 있도록 할 것이다.

Punctuation marks help to shape the tone of the spoken language, speed, level, and intonation in texts. That is, the punctuation marks are used to clarify the intention of the author. Despite these features, however, the punctuation marks were still excluded from the discussions when interpreting poems. This paper considers sentence codes as poetic words. For this purpose, this paper focuses on Lee, Soo-bok`s poems. Lee Soo-bok`s poems are actively using punctuation marks. Therefore, reading the punctuation marks in his poems will be helpful not only in understanding his works, but also in revealing the poetic word effects of punctuation marks. There are many kinds of punctuation marks. In this paper, however, I focus on the dot, line, and parentheses, which occupy a relatively large portion in the poems of Lee Soo-bok. It is anticipated that defining and approaching the punctuation marks in poems will provide a closer interpretation of poet`s intention, and at the same it provide a richness in the process of poem interpretation. Until now, if we have not shown much interest in the punctuation of poetry, we will now help you to realize that punctuation marks serve as a bridgehead for expanding the conversation between the reader and the poet.
