이 글은 박태원 단편 「방란장 주인」의 문장 구성 방식과 특징을 해명하고, 이를 통해 작품의 의미를 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 이 글에서는 먼저 「방란장 주인」의 문장을 쉼표를 기준으로 272개의 의미소로 나누고 의미소의 연결 방식과 의미소에 나타난 서술자 발화의 기능 및 서술자 발화가 다루는 시간의 양상을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 「방란장 주인」은 다양한 종류의 형식 형태소를 동원하여 문장을 이어나갔고, 때때로 어미나 조사를 변형하거나 생략함으로써 문장 연결의 새로운 방식을 고안해 내기도 했다. 또 의미소의 맨 앞에 맥락의 단절이나 우발적인 장면 전환을 뜻하는 말을 사용함으로써 서사의 국면을 자연스럽게 전환하고 인물의 내면을 핍진하게 형상화하였다. 또 서술자 발화는 인물의 내면 기술, 장면 묘사, 사건의 경과 제시, 서술자 논평 등의 기능을 하고 있었으며, 이들은 소설의 진행에 따라 다양한 조합을 이루었다. 동시에 서술자 발화는 작품의 초반에서 과거와 현재를 번갈아가며 다루었지만, 중반 이후부터는 현재에 집중하고 있었다. 이는 「방란장 주인」이 인물의 내면을 현재 시점에서 다루는 데 초점을 맞추고 있음을 보여준다. 이상과 같은 문장 구성 방식과 서술 방식은 한 문장으로 된 형식으로 형상화되는 동시에 고독으로 집약되는 예술가 개인의 삶을 다루고 있는 내용과 조응하면서 「방란장 주인」의 미학을 이루었다.

The study explores the composition and characteristics of sentences used in "Bangnanjang Juin" of Park, Tae-won`s short novel, and aims to reveal the meaning of the work. "Bangnanjang Juin" continued its sentences with various types of fomal morphemes, and occasionally devised a new way of linking sentences by modifying or omitting the ending or the postposition. Also, at the beginning of the semantic space, it were uesd the words of the meaning of disconnection of the context or accidental transitions. In addition, narrator utterances functioned as internal descriptions of characters, scene descriptions, event progression, narrator commentaries, etc., and various combinations were made as the novel progressed. And, the narrator discussed the past and the present in turn at the beginning of the work, but after the middle of the novel, the narrator focuses on dealing with the inside of the character at the present moment. As mentioned above, the composition of the sentence and the narrative method are shaped in the form of one sentence, and at the same time, they have become the aesthetics of "Bangnanjang Juin" in correspondence with contents dealing with the life of the individual artist concentrated in solitude.
