본고는 <덴동어미화전가>에 대한 기존의 연구 성과를 점검하고 작품의 현대적 의미와 가치를 재조명해보려는 의도에서 시작되었다. 이는 <덴동어미화전가>에 대한 재점검과 새로운 읽기라는 점에서 의미를 지니며, 고전의 현재화에 중요한 기여를 할 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다. <덴동어미화전가>에 대한 연구는 작품 소개 이후 현재까지 학계의 꾸준한 관심을 받아왔다. 규방가사의 대표적인 형태인 화전가류 작품에 해당하면서도 덴동어미의 서사가 결합된 독특한 형태 때문이기도 하고, 덴동어미 서사에 등장하는 하층민에 의한 개가 반대의 주장 등이 특별한 관심을 끌었기 때문이다. 이와 관련하여 본고는 <덴동어미화전가>의 기존 연구 성과를 점검하면서, 특히 인물, 사건, 배경이라는 세 가지 측면을 주목하여 보았다. 이세 가지 항목은 작품을 둘러싼 주된 연구 성과로서 의의를 지니지만 덴동어미와 당대 사람들이 현대인에게 전하고자 하는 삶의 의미가 무엇이 었는가를 탐구하는 데 유용한 논점이기 때문이다. 이를 통해 <덴동어미화전가>는 현대를 살아가는 우리에게 삶의 프레임을 바꿈으로써 진정행복에 이를 수 있는 길을, 신명의 깊이를 더할 수 있는 방법을, 그리고 진정한 자아형성과 정체성 회복의 기회를 줄 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이상과 같은 <덴동어미화전가>의 연구성과 점검 및 새로운 읽기를 통해 고전의 현대화, 그리고 문화콘텐츠화의 방향성 제시에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.

This paper amis to check study results of < Dendongdomi Hwajeonga > and to reexamine the modern meanings and value of the work. The scientific work has continuously paid attention to study of < Dendongeomi-hwajeonga > because of its peculiar type formed by narrations of Dendongeomi being combined with Hwajeonga, and also because that assertions by the lower class of objecting to getting married which appear in narrations of Dendongeomi attracted special interest. In relation to that, this paper, checking the study results of < Dendongeomi-hwajeonga >, took note of three aspects, that is, figures, events and background. Because these three aspects are useful points in researching what the meaning of the life is that Dendongeomi and the people in those days sought to convey to the modern people. Through this, it was confirmed that < Dendongeomi-hwajeonga > could give all of us living in modern times a method allowing us to lead to true happiness, a method making faith deeper and an opportunity to form true self and recover identity, by changing the frame of life. It is expected that checking study results of < Dendongeomi -hwajeonga > and new reading, as above, will be helpful to modernization of classics and proposing direction for cultural contents.
