무슬림들에 의한 테러가 갈수록 심각하게 증가하고 있다. 갈수록 다양화되고 잔인해지는 이슬람 테러의 요인에 대하여 크게 두 가지의 설명이 나타나고 있다. 하나는 서구에 의한 억압과 착취, 그리고 그로 인한 가난 등이 무슬림들의 테러를 부추겼다는 설명이고, 다른 하나는 이슬람 내부에서 그 원인을 찾는 설명인데, 이슬람이라는 종교 자체가 폭력성을 지닌 종교라는 것이다. 과연 이슬람 테러의 참된 요인은 무엇일까? 본 연구는 이슬람에 의한 테러의 원인이 무엇인지를 객관적이면서도 심층적인 방식으로 분석하고자 한다. 모든 문제는 그 원인을 정확히 파악할 때 해결의 길에 더 가까이 갈 수 있는 것이다. 이슬람에 의한 테러 역시 그 원인을 명확히 파악할 때 해결의 길이 좀 더 선명하게 보일 것이라는 전제 위에서 연구를 진행하였다. 본 연구는 먼저 테러의 외부적 요인을 살펴보았는데, 십자군 전쟁, 서구 제국주의, 이스라엘 건국과 중동전, 서구와 미국의 정치적 개입 및 폭압 등이 그것이었으며, 이러한 요인들이 이슬람의 테러를 부추긴 측면은 분명히 있다고 분석되었다. 그러나 이슬람 테러의 원인이 십자군 또는 서구나 미국 등에 그 원인이 있다면 이러한 요인들이 나타나기 전에는 이슬람에 테러리즘의 현상이 현저하게 덜 나타났어야 한다. 하지만 이슬람교는 창시자인 무함마드 시절부터 테러리즘의 성향이 강하게 나타났다는 점에서 본 연구는 내부적 요인을 분석하게 되었다. 본 연구는, 이슬람 테러를 부추기는 내부적 요인으로 무함마드의 가르침과 행위들, 이슬람 자체의 오판과 실정, 원리주의 지도자들의 선동적 언행 등을 살펴보았으며, 이러한 요인들이 이슬람 테러리즘의 주된 요인이었음을 분석하였다. 그 결과 본 연구는 이슬람 테러리즘의 원인을 단순히 정치 사회적인 입장에서만 보는 관점은 이슬람 폭력문제를 해결하는 데 한계를 지닌다는 결론을 얻게 되었다. 따라서 이슬람의 빈곤 문제 해결이나 민주화 등이 이루어지면 테러가 사라질 것이라고 생각하면서 이런 문제 해결에만 힘을 쏟는 것은 근본적인 해결방안이 되지 못한다. 보다 근본적인 해결방안은 테러에 대한 근본주의자들의 가르침의 문제점을 일깨워주어야 하고, 테러에 대하여는 어느 정도 과감한 응징을 함으로써 섣불리 테러로 문제를 해결하고자 하는 시도는 결코 성공적인 방식이 될 수 없음을 각인시켜줄 필요도 있어 보인다. 물론 이러한 제안은 현실적으로 결코 쉽게 시행되어지기는 어렵겠지만 근본적인 원인 파악과 해결에 대한 기본적인 방향을 잡고 이슬람 테러문제 해결방안을 꾸준히 모색하고 추진해 나갈 때 해결의 길도 열어지리라 여겨진다.

In these days terrors committed by Muslims are increasing rapidly. In the past the target of terror was limited mostly to a certain specific persons. Yet recently the target is becoming wider as it is focused on unspecified crowd. In this situation, there occurs a serious question about the real cause of the terror. This paper is to analyze the cause of the Islamic terror based on the assumption that problems can be solved when we know of the causes exactly. First, this paper tried to find the reasons of terrors in terms of socio-political dimension, They are the Crusade, Western imperialism, foundation of Israel and Middle East war, violence and political intervention by the West and the States. Because of the above matters, the Muslims got hurt a lot and hatred towards the West and the States. And these are the cause of the terrors. Secondly, this paper seeked the causes found in the religion Islam itself. They are teachings and examples of Muhammad the founder of Islam, misunderstanding and wrong politics of Islamic countries, incitement of fundamental Muslims. These are the direct causes of the Islamic terrorim. In terms of the view of fundamental Muslims, terror is not only a bad thing. When it is focused on world Islamization, it is the most effective method and the best dedication for Allah; it brings eternal blessings to Muslims. Due to this view, the reason that Muslims carry out terror is not because of their wrong character or mentality. Rather it is mostly because of the Islamic teaching. Therefore, one basic way of solving the problem of terror is no other than transforming the view of Muslims on terror, though it takes a long time.
