This study was attempted to investigate general pharmacological actions of CHOKYEONGCHONGOK-TANG in rabbits or rats, making use of its water extract. CHOKYEONGCHONGOK-TANG water extract (CKCOTE), when given to the rat intraperitoneally, inhibited significantly open-field exploratory behavior. CKCOTE, administered into a ear-vein of the rabbit, elicited the dose-related hypotensive responses. The depressor action induced by intravenous CKCOTE was not influenced by pretreament with vagotomization, diphenhydramine and propranolol, but attenuated markedly by pretreatment of atropine, chlorisondamine, debrisoquin and phentolamine. CKCOTE, injected to the rabbit intravenously, produced respiratory stimulation. Stimulation of respiration by CKCOTE was not impaired treatment of atropine. Intravenous CKCOTE reduced heart rates of the rabbit significantly. CKCOTE caused contraction in both the isolated intestinal and nonpregnant uterus strips of the rabbit. Under the exist of atropine, contraction responses in both these strips were disappeared. CKCOTE, when given into a ear-vein of the rabbit, revealed the dose-dependent diuretic action significantly.
