본 연구의 배경 및 연구방법과 범위, 연구내용은 다음과 같다. 사회 집단의 이해관계에 따라 발생되고 있는 시위에서 질서 유지 임무를 효과적으로 수행하기 위해서는 경찰 진압 장비 디자인 개선의 필요성이 증대되고 있으며 특히 가장 많이 사용되는 경찰 방패의 디자인 개발이 필요하다. 이를 위해 디자인 부분해답 방법론을 이용한 경찰방패 개발연구(Police shielddevelopment using design sub solution researchmethodology)를 토대로 사용성 검증을 위한 테스트 디자인 모델을 제작한다. 테스트 디자인 모델 제작과 함께 손잡이의 위치와 배치, 충격흡수장치의 형태와 위치등 각 부품의 기능 연구도 같이 병행한다. 기능연구 결과를 토대로 각각의 부품시스템을 구성하여 시위현장경험이 있는 경찰 대원들의 현장 검증을 인터뷰와 설문조사를 분석하여 상세 디자인 종합 연구를 할 수 있도록 한다. 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 방패 길이는 108cm와 112cm, 방패 폭은 52cm, 방패 상하날개 각도는 9°와 16°, 보강 프레임으로는 박스 형태와 어깨형, 시야창 있음과 없음, 보호패드 가로형과 어깨형, 방패 외각 몰딩형태는 별도 하단몰딩과 일체형 몰딩으로 각 항목 당두 가지 해결안이 나왔다. 둘째, 조사 결과를 종합하여 상세디자인을 위한 두 가지 TYPE의 방패로 좁혀 졌으며 경찰방패상세디자인 평가위원회를 통하여 최종 경찰방패상세디자인 사양 및 규격을 결정 할 수 있을 것이다.

Background and research methods, research scope, research information in this study is as follows. In the demonstrations that are occurring in accordance with the interests of social groups, in order to perform the mission effectively maintain order, police fighting equipment need to improve the design are increasing. For it, based on the research and development with the police shield design methodology partial answer, we produce a test design model for usability verification. Based on the functional studies by configuring each system part, we will study detailed design comprehensive research through analysis of surveys and interviews of police have experience in the field. And decision of two types of shields for detailed design allows the study about police shield detailed design specifications and standards through police shield detailed design evaluation board. Conclusions are as follows.
