In Seven Guitars, August Wilson presents the unique particulars of black American culture into cultural rituals that defined and celebrated African-American as men and women of high purpose. He focuses on the social prejudice shaped by cultural and historical forces. He also wants to place the distinctive culture of black community onstage in its richness. He also demonstrates the stigmatized culture to sustain African-American in all areas of human life through profound moments of their history. King Hedley who appears mentally besieged by madness, implicitly connects his madness to sociological problems. He demonstrates a single-minded determination to restore the black man to his rightful position. Floyd tries to assert his will against fate as executed by the white power structure. While Hedley kills Floyd who had betrayed black communality and disserved the legacy. In killing Floyd Hedley becomes the instrument of death not only for the dream of the plantation life, but for the dream of misguided bluesman. A strong suggestion of possibility and hope for the future in this play was presented when Ruby decides to name the baby after Hedley. It is an implication that the future will be rooted in the traditions of the past and a hope for the back community`s future which subsists in lives and traditions. Wilson`s characters operate in ways that reconnect their particular African American community spiritually to its history. His ritualized actions similarly point to a secular spiritual revelation in which past and present conjoin, directing African Americans to a future of social and cultural change. After all what Wilson ultimately offers is a reconciliation of the spiritual world of black community and the 20th century of American society. Therefore, Wilson uses the theater for Black Americans as a powerful conveyer of human values and forces us to look into racial truths and enables us to discover an indomitable spirit that recognizes, sometimes across wide social barriers, those common concerns that make possible genuine cultural fusion.
