중국의 가장 오래된 전적 중의 하나인 『상서』는 여러 종류의 본이 난립하였는데, 그 중 후대에 까지 영향을 미친 본은 『금문상서』, 『고문상서』, 『위고문』 등이다. 이 중 동진 때 매색이 위조한 『위고문』은 당과 송을 거쳐 통행본이 됨으로써 후대에 가장 큰 영향력을 미쳤다. 한국에서는 삼국시대와 고려시대를 거쳐 조선에 이르기까지 이 『위고문』이나 또는 『위고문』을 대본으로 주석을 단 채침의 『서집전』(『서전대전』)이 주류를 형성하였다. 한편 조선후기에 이르러 『서집전』의 저본인 『위고문』이 위서라는 것이 인지되었을 때, 김정희 같은 학자는 이 『위고문』을 완전 부정하였고, 정약용은 부정을 하면서도 그 내용이 좋기 때문에 폐지할 수 없다는 입장을 견지하였다. 그러나 이진상을 비롯한 대부분의 조선유학자들은 이 책이 위서라는 주장에 대하여 믿지 않고, 진서임을 강조하였다. 이는 『위고문』의 한 편인 「대우모」에 들어 있는 16字 心傳이 주자 이래 유학의 정수라고 오랫동안 믿어왔기 때문이었다. 조선유학자들의 입장이 이러했기에 『위고문』은 조선의 학술에 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 특히 한문학의 산문과 한시에도 미친 영향이 컸다.

There has been many different examples disorderly on Sang Seo which is one of the oldest books in China. Among them, Geummun Sang Seo, Gomun Sang Seo, WiGoMun had influences in later generations. But most of all, WiGoMun, which is forged by Mae-Saek in the era of Dong Jin, had a great influence in later generations by coming into popular use in the Tang and Song Dynasties. From the era of the Three States and Koryo to the era of Joseon, WiGoMun or SeoJip Jeon(SeoJip Jeon Dae Jeon), which Chae-Chim wrote the annotation of WiGoMun, became the mainstream in Korea. When WiGoMun, original text of SeoJip Jeon, is perceived as a pseudograph in the late Joseon Dynasty, Kim Jeong-hui denied this book entirely. And even though Jeong Yak-yong also thought that WiGoMun was a pseudograph, he sticked to his position that it should not be abandoned because of its good contents. But almost every Joseon Confucian scholars including Lee Jin-sang didn`t believe the idea of WiGoMun of being forged and they did emphasize that it was an authentic piece of writing. This is because they regarded ``sixteen letters Sim Jeon`` in Dae U Mo, a piece of WiGoMun, as an essence of Confucianism for a long time. Resulting from a such stance, WiGoMun had a great effect on scholarships in era of Joseon. It also had a particularly great influence on proses and poems in study of Chinese classics.
