옥한흠 목사는 한국교회로 하여금 사도성의 계승과 만인제사장 원리를 자각하여 한국교회의 잠자는 평신도들을 깨워 목회의 대상이 아닌 목회의 동역자로 전환시켜 교회사역에 역동적으로 참여할 수 있는 안목을 제공하였다. 그는 성경과 기독교 역사 속에 존재했던 평범한 진리를 새롭게 해석하고 조명하여 이 시대의 “교회를 위한 신학”으로 승화시키는 탁월한 안목과 능력을 소유하였다. 기독교의 역사를 통해 배우는 교훈은 바로 위대한 개혁은 여태 몰랐던 것을 새로 찾아야 이루어지는 것이 아니라, 그것은 이미 있는 것을 전혀 다르게 보는 이가 있을 때 발생한다는 사실이다. 그런 면에서 우리는 옥한흠에게 “한국교회를 깨운 설교자”라는 명칭을 더해도 조금도 손색이 없을 것이다.

Rev. Han Heum Oak has effectively assured Korean Christian Churches that all believers are given the apostolic mission of the church and called to proclaim the Gospel and make disciples of all nations. Throughout his ministry, Oak pored out his pastoral zeal to accomplish this goal by his discipleship training ministry. But it is to be noted that Oak’s discipleship training ministry has been inseparably connected with his influential preaching ministry. Based upon Reformed theology, Oak’s preaching played a major role in renewing the churches in Korea. In this sense, Rev. Oak can be regarded as one of best preachers to awaken the Korean Christians.
